I'm sure many of you had a list of names before you got pregnant. And some of you may have a list between bby#3 and bby#4. But how long is your list?
I am not pregnant, but I have been planning on it. And it seems like everyday I hear a new name I like, so it goes added on to the list. My list as of now is really long. It has 55 girl names and 49 boy names.Which sounds ridiculous to me, but i'm not quite sure on how to lower it.
I started an Excel to organize the list. So I started color coordinating the list. First I had my FI highlight all the ones he absolutely hates "the no goes" blue. I thought that would knock out a bunch, but it didn't. It only took out 11. Then I had him go through and highlight all the ones that he thought didn't go well with the last name red. That knocked out 14. That still leaves me with like 79 choices. How did you all narrow down your list?
Re: pre-pregnancy list
I think most people have 2 lists:
the Long List - Usually names you really like and may use for a kid someday
the Short List - Names from your list that you really love and/or your SO also really likes and meets certain naming priorities (i.e. Family, popularity, sentimental)
My long list is over 50 names, short list is down to 3
Exactly this! I have an ongoing list that I add to whenever I hear a name, then I talk with hubby and add the winners get added to our babynames list (link in siggy) but we def. have 3 favorites of each sex on that list. I don't think we will be able to pick till, 1. I get pregnant and 2. we meet our l.o.
I'm no help. DH and I decided on "the" boy name before we were even engaged, almost 11 years ago and that name hasn't changed since. We have some runners up, but would only use them if we have twins or triplets.
For girl names, I had a list of 2 before I was pg with DD and the name we used was one of them. I still have reservations about the other name on the list, so it has now been joined by about 4 other serious contenders and another 10 or so "maybe, but could be a middle name" names.
