Names from the park

I was at the park yesterday with DS and over heard a lady calling her little GIRL Ezra. I didn't have the balls to ask questions, but a hispanic lady asked her about her kids name(s). The mother's response was that her older daughter's name is Elijah and she wanted a boy this time and knew she would name him Ezra. When she found out she was having a girl she decided she would still name her Ezra. She said they both had "girly middle names" so if they decided they didn't want to go by their boy names forever they could use their middle names. yep.

Why?! She seriously couldn't think of one "girly" first name!

What will she name her future son? Emma or Emily? Emily with a masculine middle name.

  • I don't think the one I'd feel so bad for is the Ezra. I could see Ezra going either way. That poor girl named Elijah...I feel for her.

YES!  Maybe she could go by Ellie?

  • That's pretty dumb. She already named her "boy" when she had poor Elijah.

  • Elijah went by Elijah she said, but Ezra went by Ezzie. She said Ezra looked at her one day and told her not to call her Ezra, but to call her Ezzie. So, that is what she calls her most of the time.

  • I had a similar experience: at a restaurant, hearing a dad calling for his child: "Nolan! Nolan!" And what comes running? A cute little girl. Nolan?

  • She could have used it as a middle name. that would have been better in my opinion.

The same thing happened at Target to me. Only the name was Bryson. To me, that is too masculine for a little girl.

i'm hoping the unisex/ masculine name with a feminine middle name trend blows over soon. i'm not one of those people who says middles don't matter but sheesh, not everyone she comes into contact with is going to know your daughter has a feminine middle name.

  • I know an adult female Jamison too, so that trend isn't too new.
