Unsure about name. Vent and advice

MH and I picked out our LO's name about 3 weeks after we found out we were expecting another boy. Here I am on the threshold of 31wks, and I am having 2nd thoughts on the name. We disagreed on so many, and the #1 and #2 picks I had, he knocked. I am not "in love" with our LO's chosen name as I am with DS name. Should I say something to MH and hope he agrees (which I know he won't), or just stick it out? I am horrible at dealing with rejection so if he doesn't go for it, then we will have a bawling momma. I know I sound pathetic...I just don't know how to approach this or if I even should.

  • You both need to be happy with the choice. Talk to him.

  • I think it is at least worth bringing up, if you feel that strongly about it.  Hopefully he will understand that you have all these hormones going on and will at least be able to talk it out with you.  The way I think about it is that no matter how far along you are, you haven't signed the birth certificate yet, so nothing needs to be set in stone.  MH and I haven't decided on a middle name yet (first name is family, so LO will go by his middle name) and I make it a point to bring it up often, just so that we both know that more discussion needs to be had.  I know it's not the same situation, but if you at least make him aware that you want to open back up the lines of communication, that will ease your mind a little bit.  And if you never bring it up, they he won't have a chance to re-evaluate with you.  :)

    Good luck!

  • Absolutely say something to him.. I had the same problem about a month and a half ago. I did not love her name. I was so upset about it when I decided to finally talk to MH about it, I began to cry before I could even get the words out. He was so understanding about it. We planned to take names 1 and 2 and 2 new names to the hospital (so it was 2 we had each chosen) and name her when we met her. We had a change of events and one of our names won the race early, so we didn't have to wait for D day.

You should not name your baby something both do not absolutely LOVE!!

This is what I would like to do. I had three names I liked, one I loved (Cullen) but I gave it up because of the popularity of the "Twilight" movie. I kind of approached him before he left for work today, and just said, "I'd like to reconsider the baby's name". He immediately said "No", and that was it. I held back the tears, and managed not to lose control of emotions LoL So, I suppose next week on his next off days I will try again. He and DS both have celtic names, so he wants to carry it on with LO too..so I will start looking (again) and see if I can find one again to recommend. Thanks for your advice. I hate changing LO's name but I can see myself now, giving birth and crying because I don't love his name and just end up calling him "Baby".

I guess it depends on how much you don't like it and how much your DH does. We were torn between two names for DD, and I went with the one he chose. Now the name has grown on me, and I wouldn't have any other name for DD.
