share your tips on getting your LO to nap

DD has been on a successful routine for both an afternoon nap and for bedtime for about 2 months.  However, she no longer will fall asleep on her own for a morning nap.  I am trying to get her to go down for a morning nap and am wondering what kind of routine, if any, others use with their LO.  While I swaddle DD for her afternoon nap and at bedtime, I would like to try her without the swaddle in the a.m. so that we can eventually get rid of the swaddle all together for other sleep times.  Any advice would be appreciated.

  • I think you need to decide what is more important, no swaddle or an AM nap.  I'd go with the nap personally.

We follow EASY so the routine is the same for all naps, the only difference is the length.  He has 2 shorter morning naps, usually 45-90 mins and his afternoon nap is usually 3+ hours.  However nothing is different about routine leading up to naptime.  And the only difference between naps and bedtime is that stimulating activites end after dinner.  No activity mat, blinky lights and loud sounds, activites before bed are all more calming like books, bath, walks, etc.

Once you get the naps sorted out, then I would deal with the swaddle.  You can start by leaving out one arm first.
