Ethan is driving us nuts. If you say it's 5:45 when the clock reads 5:43, he corrects you. We tried to explain it to him, and it made him mad at first. Now he's trying to figure it out but to him, rounding means 5:43 is now some off the wall time like 5:56. Anyway, just wondering when kids usually figure this stuff out. He's drilling me right now and questions everything I tell him.
Re: When do kids learn to "round" time?
dontcha love when they get smarter than us?? LOL
Mitch argued with me that "bunny" begins with "R" because Mrs. Teacher told him.....I asked her about it jokingly "hey! Mitch keeps telling me that you said Bunny starts with R!" and she laughed "oh, NO! I was teaching them that RABBIT starts with R!"
I"m not sure when they learn rounding.....I can't remember if Audrey's learned it this year (K) and I know Tay has learned it (1st) so sometime in there....but I don't know if its specific to time, or in general...
Rounding is taught in 2nd grade and on. My third graders finally grasp 5:43 is close to 5:45 it is an odd concept to grasp. It goes along with elapsed time. That is my teacher explanation.
