One of those good news bad news days. DD had her first eye exam last friday - by Sunday (mothers day) she had some eye boogers - they said it was normal from the eye exam for her to have some discharge etc. Well on monday it was worse - she looked like she had pink eye - her eyes were red crusty and stuck together from the sticky goobers. They did and culture and said they would probably rx some drops. No biggy. So monday night I ask about the culture. Nurse says nothings growing yet, tuesday different nurses same answers, wednesday ditto with the doctor - all the while her eyes are obviously infected, yesterday I cornered one of her docs and asked about the culture. He admitted he had not checked it and went to look - it wasnt there - he got the nurse on it and guess what - the lab never got it. SO I wonder - which imaginary culture were all these people looking at and telling me it was negative????? so of course they take another culture and it comes out positive - way positive FOR STAPH!!!!!!!! shes getting eye drops but I'm very worried her vision will be affected. The doc says no way but i want to talk to the eye doctor next week when he comes to see her. Im so dissapointed in the staff - I've been there 9 weeks and have never worried about her care. This week I'm back to work and this happens as well as a diaper rash.
Good news - today she graduated from CPAP to nasal cannula!!!!! I can now see her beautiful face! even if her eyes are yucky!
Re: Good news bad news
I'm sorry, maybe they just figured they would have heard if it was positive so no news= negative?
Post pics of her on cannula! I love cute babies
I updated my siggy and put up today photo~ I love her hat today ~ it says "Drama Queen"
Wow, I'm sorry to hear about the eye issue.
She is just beautiful though!
Congrats on the cannula! So nice to see their whole face, right?!?
Sorry about the eye infection. I'd ask for clarification for sure as to why people were telling you nothing was growing - sounds like they weren't checking maybe. Boo for that. I think a friend of ours in the NICU had an eye infection and ended up being fine once they were on antibiotics. Hope the same is true for your LO.
Audrey had staph in her eyes too at one point... maybe two weeks ago? Sounds super scary, but hers cleared up in about 2 days with the drops and she's right as rain now. I had the same question as you but the doctors and nurses both assured me that there wouldn't be any damage.
She is SO gorgeous in your new picture! I love her chubby cheeks and that hat is ADORABLE!
