Gavin is really into music. It started w/ Little Einsteins (he is OBSESSED with that show) and then just got more intense at his new school b/c they used to have an awesome Music Director who Gavin loved. I mean, the kid can name ANY instrument and can even identify which instruments are playing on the Pirates of Caribbean soundtrack! He will shout out- violin, harp, trumpet, tuba, drums, symbals! He can even hear the difference in a flute vs. piccolo. It's crazy. At church, he loves to watch them playing instruments on stage. He's fascinated. Sophie has this caterpillar toy that plays classical music. One of the songs is Vivaldi's Spring. Gavin can tell you that one is Vivaldi and he will talk about "Baby Tulips". I couldn't figure it out until I realized that one of the Little Einsteins shows has this song and a Baby Tulip. I feel like we need to encourage this so I'm looking for ideas- classes or even just somewhere that he can go listen to an orchestra. Does Atlanta Symphony do any kid friendly concerts? Any other ideas?
Re: Music classes?
There are lots of kid friendly classical concerts. If he doesn't have the CDs for Peter and the Wolf and Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra..they are musts.
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has children's concerts several times a year. Also they do have some ourdoor concerts, which can be nice and full of kids. They also have a traveling orchestra that plays in various churches (it is smaller).
There are lots of music class options, which I'm sure people will share. For formal training, it tends to start around 4 years old with piano or the violin. Most at that age do the Suzuki Method. I started with Violin around age 8 and was always left in the dust by those that started at 4..but then again maybe I just didn't have as much talent.

Shmoo is growing up!
Kinder Music!!!!!! I can't say enough about the programs that are offered through them. In our area a good school that offeres these is Music Time Learning Centers. They also offer other musical instument classes once the kids get older.
The owners name is Mary Beth and she is wonderful!
