Baby Names

So how awful would it be

to name our kid Graham Cracker? Well our last name isn't actually Cracker, but it pretty much could be.. take out the r, throw in some p's.You get the idea.

Our other boy name is Miles, which my husband is 100% in love with and set on. Graham is my #1 name, but the Graham Cracker thing gives me pause. What do you think? Awful?

Re: So how awful would it be

  • Sorry, I'm laughing.

Graham is a great name and so is Miles, but considering the last name... I'd go with Miles.

Haha, I know it's bad! I told my husband that at least it's a good association, makes me want s'mores. Stick out tongue

I like Calvin and Atticus, husband is impartial. I like Piers/Pierce and Jack, husband doesn't.

A girl would be easier to name. We are in agreement on about 5 girl names.  I guess we are jumping the gun a bit, just wanted to see if anyone would knock some sense into me!

  • Aw, I'm a bit sad, but don't want the kid getting made fun of for life. I feel like if it it wouldn't be as big of a deal if it was a girl, because she would probably marry into a new name... but a boy, not so much.

My husband will be thrilled, good thing I love the name Miles too. It is my second favorite Big Smile

ETA: Middle name will be Douglas after my dad.

    Yep, I'd stick with Miles.
  • FWIW, in my experience just the name Graham alone is going to lead to "Graham Cracker" NNs, independent of your last name.  My sister had a boyfriend named Graham, with a totally unrelated last name, and he was constantly called Cracker.  So, yeah, given your last name, I'd say it's inevitable.
  • Yeah, don't do it to your kid. Kids whose names sounded like something always got a titter. Miles is fantastic.

I went to HS with a Graham and everyone called him Graham Cracker...and his last name wasn't even close to cracker. I definitely would NOT use Graham.

Don't do it. I LOVE the name Graham. We have several in our family. The only downside of the name are the stupid Graham cracker jokes that get REALLY old. And we don't even have a LN that sounds even remotely like "cracker". I can only imagine how much worse it would be for your boy, and to me, that much more negatively outweighs the awesomeness of the name.

  • Hm I had to think about your LN before I responded. I don't think it's AWFUL to be honest. However, I do like Miles more than Graham regardless of your LN! I love the name Miles (and Milo...) :)
