Pregnant after a Loss

Figuring out gestational age

I have irregular long cycles. ?My lmp was at Aug. 11. ?However, since I have long cycles, if the dr. went by that, it would be misleading. ?I don't chart, but used opk's and I'm assuming that I ovulated around Sept. 6. ?I thought that most people add on 2 weeks to when you conceived/ovulated. ?In that case, I would be around 7 weeks. ?At Stanford Univ. Hospital where I go, the dr. goes purely on actual weeks post conception, so I would be considered only 5 weeks. ?How does your dr. do it? ?I thought most of the world went by lmp or adding 2 weeks to ovulation date!

Re: Figuring out gestational age

  • In the very beginning it will go by your LMP, but once you have an u/s they should be able to date your pregnancy much better by using the CRL (crown-rump length).

After 27 months, 5 IUI's, 3 m/c's, 2 IVF's, 2 FET's (and a partridge in a pear tree) we finally had our baby boy. Our first son was born on Jan. 1, 2009.

Did another round of IVF and our girl/boy twins were born May 12, 2011

  • Most women don't know their O date, so it is usually based off LMP.  Although, the first ultrasound is the most accurate way to date a pg.  At that time you may want to explain to your Dr. (again) that your long cycles would account for any difference.  If it is more than a week off from your LMP, they may based your edd on the u/s instead.  HTH.
  • Hi- I think you are right, most of the world does go by the lmp.  It is probably much more up to date to go by the ovulation date, and have gestation be based on that since you are not actually pregnant for the first 2 weeks.  Maybe your clinic is just very modern.  It will be confusing if you read any books or magazines though... HTH! :-)

  • Since I chart I knew when I Oed so my doctor went by that date plus 2 weeks. It puts me now at 6w3d. If she would have went by my LMP it would have said 7w2d. We'll see what the u/s says in a 1 1/2 weeks.

  • Cvillecouple--You may be right.  Since Stanford is a research hospital, maybe they're trying to set some new trend or something...
