I did as well. To be honest, I think she just needed to get it all out. Rather than flame her for a DD, since it was her 2nd post, I think she still needs to hear what we'd say.
So violetmunro, this is for you:
Oh my goodness dear. I'm so sorry. It definitely sounds like you
need to have an open and honest conversation with your DH. You should
never be made to feel like you're alone, unattractive, or unable to
express your opinion. Your frustration seems very valid.
Good luck with your paper.
Don't worry about how you will develop as a mother. Whether you feel it will be instinctual or not, it just comes.
Dang! I was going to read that one next. What was it about that would cause such a fast DD?
It wasn't THAT bad... mostly a rant about having to finish a paper for school, her husband being sick with a chest cold, & feeling overwhelmed. I only quoted a part of it (see below):
violetmunro:
I knew, but did not realize, that being a woman means taking care of everything, planning everything, listening supportively without expressing an opinion that may upset the other party, being made to feel unattractive, and having to carry all things when the plan unravels.
I don't understand how any of those things are connected to being a woman? I don't take care of everything - I rely on my husband to carry his share & support me when I need it.
Who told you that you have to listen supportively without expressing your opinion? This is 2011... not 1950. You are entitled to your opinion and should be able to express it freely. If you feel oppressed by your husband, I would urge you both to seek counseling. It's not healthy or normal to be controlled by your husband and to feel trapped in your marriage/life.
