Baby Names

If your LN starts with "Ph"...

Would you avoid all names that start with F? With P? I keep finding myself gravitating towards both like:

Felicity

Francesca

Forest

or..

Peter

Piers

Perpetua (okay, my Dh might hate that one :))

I know "ph" FN's are off limits (Phillip, Philomena, Phillipa etc) but... what to do about F's and P's alone?

Edited: Spelling :)

  • I don't see any problem with using any of the names on your list. :) Our last name starts with a Pe- and I thought P- names were off limits, but my hubby (whose name is Paul) doesn't think so. He says he lived with his alliterative name and it's no big deal.

  • Maiden name started with an F, same sound. Some names starting with the same sound would have gone well with it and others would have sounded like a terrible, stuttering mess. So, I'd say it really depends on the name. That said, there is not a single person in my entire extended family who still use my maiden name whose first name begins with an F.

I wouldn't worry about P names, though. I think in most cases, they would sound and look okay.

  • Thanks y'all! Good to hear input. I initially thought they'd all be totally off-limits but I can see what you mean if it's the "right" name. Fwiw, my hubby feels the "p" and "ph" combo are fine too and is heavily advocating for Peter. :)

The other thought I had: learning to spell. The "ph, ""f," and "p" may be a smidge confusing for a new speller? But I imagine it wouldn't be an issue for long.
