Ditto to this. My Dr. hasn't asked me to do kick counts, possibly because I've mentioned how active LO is. They're going to be monitoring me pretty closely anyways now, since they started me on meds for GD... I'll be doing a non-stress test once a week.
I don't either. Then again, my doctor hasn't asked me to. I'm always asked if I have good movement, and I do. I feel the babe quite often and have a dance party around 8:30/9:00 every night. It's actually my favorite time of night because the Mr. puts his hand on my belly just to feel the dancing.

This. My doctor just said to call if I notice any decrease in movement. Luckily for me this little guy is crazy active so I've never worried about it.

My doctor never told me to do them. At my last appointment I saw a different OB in the practice and she asked me how they were going. I told her I feel the baby a lot, so I don't do them. She told me I should start. I haven't - that's just something else for me to worry about and since my doctor didn't seem to think they're necessary, I'm sure it's fine. I'm well aware of my baby girl and her movement - I suppose if I thought there was a problem, then maybe I'd do them.
Re: S/O kick counts...
Never have done them ever. I know what is usual as far as how much movement I feel day to day (and the times of day that are the busy vs quiet times).
If I honestly feel I haven't felt the usual amount, I drink some soda or juice and lay down for a minute. That usually works.
I only do them if im worried which is maybe 1-2x a week
