I just got back from my 2 week follow up appointment after my D&C. This was my third miscarriage, and so I am anxious to begin getting to the bottom of whatever might be going on. We talked about a few things that haven't been discussed yet. We have obviously already discussed chromosomal issues & lab issues (clotting factors, antilupus antibody, etc) but today we talked about the possibility of anatomical or infectious issues. The plan is to get a saline ultrasound to take a look at my uterus. That will be in a month. He also discussed mycoplasma infections & how the culture for these can often give a false negative so they treat empirically at this office. He gave me & DH a script for an antibiotic (doxycycline) to take for 7 days. Certainly we will never know if this made a difference, but its nice to eliminate one risk factor against us. Back to the ultrasound... if that is inconclusive, then we may move on to hysteroscopy, but it depends on the results of everything else as well.
I asked if all of my & DHs labs come back normal, what would he do then. We would discuss the possibility of treating empirically with aspirin and/or progesterone, as well as discussing sending me to an RE. We will wait until my results come back before making any decisions obviously.
Our previous Dr (same clinic) told us to wait three months before TTC. This doctor said 2 is sufficient & reminded me that there are no studies to support waiting a certain amount of time, they just like your body to build up & shed a lining a few times.
I am happy that we have a plan in place. I feel like we are moving in the right direction. If anyone has any insight for me regarding the saline ultrasound or anything else I've mentioned, I'd love to hear about it.

My doctor gave me the option to get all of the labs drawn after my second miscarriage to see if there was anything wrong and I declined : ( I felt that the first two were so different that it was very possible both were flukes, and since the medical community knows that many women can miscarry twice for unexplained reasons, and thats why they wait for 3, I decided to follow that recommendation and hoped I wouldn't regret it. Hello regret!!! I just spent 12 weeks being pregnant, 5 of which I knew it wasn't looking good but just waiting & being hopeless, and now I will wait 2 cycles before TTC. So ummm yeah, to anyone reading this, if your doctor offers to check all of your labs for you after 1 or 2 miscarriages- DO IT!
