  • With my son, I completely scoffed at the idea. I had no interest whatsoever, but I also didn't judge those that made the choice to CD. This time, I haven't completely decided to pull the trigger yet, but I'm finding myself very much leaning towards CDing. I have really begun to grow a conscience about the waste and how horrible of an impact sposies have on the environment. Not to mention the cost savings over time.
  • never mind figured it out

I tried to delete my original post buts its still there.

Cloth diapering isn't for me in any way, but if another mom wants to do it I'm fine with it.  CDs have come a long, long way from where most people think of them.

I tend to think CD moms judge sposie moms more than the other way around.

I think it definitely goes both ways.  I'm actually surprised how defensive/offensive people get about other people's choices!

I would love to CD, but I live in an apt complex with shared laundry facilities, so that's not going to work.  We're moving to a new place (yet to be determined), in August that may or may not have an in-unit W/D.  If it does, I'll take another look at CD's, but until then I'm stuck with sposies.  I'm going to do my best to buy the "environmentally friendly" ones though.

  • I hate the term "sposies".  That's my only opinion on the matter.
  • I voted because we use sposies at night, but I'm really a CD mom lol.

  • I voted that I don't judge, but I would like to copy the "no way, no how" part and tattoo it on my forehead.  CD women are wayyy stronger than I am!

  • In actuality, it would not be financially do-able for me to cloth diaper. I know in the LONG RUN it would be cheaper...but I don't have money "up front" to get my start out supplies (the X amount of cloth diapers I would need to start with). Plus, I live in an apartment. So I have to pay to do laundry. So we do it once a week. I'd have to come up with more money to wash. More money for the extra detergent.... handwashing is a no-go....I work, come home, cook, clean, help son with HW. Um, when exactly would I have time to hand wash?

If this baby is like my others, the store brand diapers are cheaper than the diaper services I've found.

If I had the time and finances, I would.

I have to disagree with you on the CD moms being more judgmental. You have no idea how many people have told me that I won't be able to do it, and that is disgusting to put diapers in the laundry. The poop doesn't go in the laundry! but try to explain that to anyone who already thinks it's "gross". Anytime diapers are mentioned around me and I say I'm using cloth, I get tons of btichy/negative comments. I wouldn't bring it up, but people keep offering to throw "diapers and wipes" showers since we are team green and they think that means it's impossible to buy anything but diapers in advance.

I don't know anyone IRL that uses cloth, and I don't really care what other people use- it's a personal choice.

  • We seriously considered CDing.  Decided not for us, at least right now.  But more power to the mommies and daddies who do!

  • I thought about CDing for a bit...but I'm leaning towards sposies.  (Sorry random bumpies that hate that word...Confused)

I'm pretty sure if I tried CDing...I would fail.  I don't have a whole lot of faith in myself!  Might try it for baby #2, but I'm already feeling overwhelmed by baby #1...so I'm not sure if I want to try it for this one.

Agree, agree.  Nobody can ever really get along.  Stick out tongue  Two bumpies got their panties in a bunch on this thread over the word "sposies" LOL.  People get riled up over the silliest things.  I'm pretty sure no matter what you said about anything on here there will ALWAYS be someone who disagrees with you.

So yeah, ITA that it goes both ways.  Plus I always think its funny how seriously people take stuff on here no one ever wants to have fun or poke fun.  Its always complaining and attacking, followed by defending!  Stick out tongue

  • I don't judge moms who CD at all. Actually, on a very superficial level, I'm jealous...because the covers, etc. are so dang cute! I just don't think I could do it. I get overwhelmed easily and don't feel prepared at all for so many things when it comes to LO. Trying to CD is just too much for me. I don't do laundry enough as it is. I really don't know that I could keep up with the laundry required to CD. I also don't like the word "sposie" and had never actually heard it before.

  • I didn't vote because I'm a CD lady, but RE: CD moms being judgey versus sposie moms:

I think CD people get much more flack just because its against the norm so we have an auto defense response against people who use disposible diapers. So its not so much judging somebody else, its protecting ourselves because we're so used to it.?

  • I have a huge interest in the sustainability aspects of diapering - since I work in the field (of sustainability not diapering)... haha

I've read so many studies - as with anything - there are tradeoffs for both. Disposables - consume more raw materials, produce more waste... CD - consumes more energy and water

I know this has nothing to do with the poll, but just wondered if anyone out there was having the same conflict I have.

I want to CD because it seems "less bad" but I guess I just wish there was a better solution.

  • I voted SS b/c I was interested initially but H wasn't at all so together we made the decision not to.

Honestly I do know a number of people IRL who CD & I feel at least one does judge my friends & I who decided not to & acts "superior" b/c of it...I admit, it's annoying!
