It is pretty common not to get an US after 20 weeks unless they ahve a reason, so dont worry about it too much. They usually do these when you are measuring ahead or behind just to make sure everything is ok.
You are correct, you generally only get one if you are high risk or something is off, consider yourself lucky if you don't need one!

I was told the same. We don't get anymore unless something is wrong. LO was measuring a bit big in the abdomen (sp?), but the NP I saw last week didn't know if they would do another ultrasound or not. I had one with DS at 36wks for a growth check to see if he was over 6lbs. Wish they would do one with LO because (having anxiety disorder) I am so nervous about something being wrong.

Oh Ok. I'll do that. You would think they'd do one in 3rd tri just to make sure everything is going ok and for our peace of mind. My ob says I'm measuring on track but I can't help but compare my belly to others who are due after me.. I seem small, IMO. But what do I know??!! thanks girls!

I thought my 20 week was going to be my last u/s as my doctor never mentioned anything about a growth u/s. Well they detected some problems with LO and that is the only reason I had one.
I still have no idea if they normally offer a 3rd trimester scan. But it seems like it really depends on the doctor. Just ask!

I didn't think I was going to get one but at my last appointment my doc scheduled me for one. He never mentioned thinking anything is wrong, In fact he says baby looks to be doing great. He just wanted to get measurements and make sure everything is going great. So it appears some docs schedule them just to make sure everything is going great and ease our minds, rather than something HAVING to be wrong in order to get one. I guess like everything else it just depends on your doctor.

I'll be having a few extra because I have asthma and asthmatics tend to have slightly smaller babies, so my OB wants to make sure he's growing properly. I also get an u/s every OB appt and I have had issues with placenta previa (which has slowly been moving, fingers crossed) and I get u/s for that as well.

This, the only reason I am getting another is because at 20 weeks I had a partial placenta previa, they will do another u/s at around 36 weeks to see if it has moved and if it hasn't I will have to have a c-section. With DD everything was fine though and all I got was my 20 week u/s.
I just had my 32 week appointment, and my doctor is having me do a growth ultrasound at 36 weeks so that he has an idea of how big the baby is, where the placenta is located, and how she's positioned. He says everything is fine, but that he just wants to have an idea of how everything's looking so that we can better prepare. I don't think that being high risk or having something wrong is the only reason for a growth ultrasound- like others have said, it really depends on the doctor.

I have routine growth u/s, but only because I am having high-risk twins. I know it sounds like fun, but it's actually really stressful every time I go. If everything looks good, there's no need for a growth u/s.

I'm having one next week (31 weeks) but I've had some issues with this pregnancy & am currently on bedrest.
While it's nice to see my LO, I'm constantly worried about going into PTL and I wish more than anything that I had a "normal" pregnancy.
I've heard that some Dr's routinely do growth u/s around 35 weeks- I would just ask your Dr at your next appt.

They're not the standard here either unless there's an issue.
I MAY get one if my baby is still transverse at 34 weeks just to check, but otherwise no.
My first pregnancy was full of them, and while it was nice to see LO it was un-fun and pretty stressful.
Most women only get one u/s around 22 weeks which is your growth u/s. I only had 1 u/s with my first.
I am high risk with this pregnancy and have had 3 u/s's and will be having 2 more that I know of.
