July 2011 Moms

When are you packing your bag?

Your hospital bag, I mean.

I'm thinking that sometime in early June is a good time for us (I'm due July 6), just in case. Maybe around 36 weeks? I will likely have most things on a list so that it's easy to pack in a hurry when the time comes -- most of the stuff I'll want to bring I use daily, so I don't want to pack everything too soon or live out a bag for a month.

Re: When are you packing your bag?

  • I'm thinking around 35 weeks. Obviously there's going to be some stuff thrown in last minute, like tooth brush, but most the clothes and stuff are things I'd like to use still.

im going to pack 5 weeks in advance.  I dont think ill be early but i think being prepared a for as early as 4 weeks can't hurt.

    SURPRISE! Here comes #3!
  • 37 weeks, even though I'm having a RCS. I had DS at 38 weeks, so I'm leary on if I'll make it to my date. I also recommend getting like little travel-size stuff or travel bottles so that you can take just a small amount (you'll probably only be there 2 days max if you have a vaginal delivery) so that you don't have to worry about the back-n-forth out of a bag stuff.
  • I'm ridiculous b/c I want everything done and squared away ASAP. I actually thought that I would start it now - put some things in it (socks, etc.) and then make a list attached to it and I'll cross things off as I go. Then, IF I need it, it's ready and I won't panic thinking "what else do I need in here?" So...I actually may start it soon and then fill it up as time goes on...

Since I got my new Vera Bradley Weekender bag for Mother's Day (thanks DH!) I'm going to slowly start packing it after my baby shower this weekend. Stuff like nursing gown & robe, some toiletries, etc., and I will make a list of stuff I need to put in last-minute, such as my Kindle, cell charger, camera, etc.

  • Probably around the end of June after our babymoon and shower are over. I don't know if she'll need a newborn or 0-3 month outfit based on how much she'll weigh. Plus I'm probably leaving work mid-June, so I'll be bored.

  • I've been meaning to ask this! I can't remember what I did last time... I think I will throw a few things in a bag these upcoming weeks and leave a list with last minute items. It's not like I was rushing around when I went into labor last time, I had the whole day from my first "notice" haha. But I too want to be prepared, who knows!
  • I've started gathering/buying some things based on some of the posts I've seen on here on what I'll need. Nursing nightgown, pads, granny panties, nursing tank, robe, maternity cropped yoga pants, etc.  I started putting them in a bag. Toiletries will wait until later but I just do not want to be running to the store last minute for some of these items that MH would have no clue of what to buy. :)

  • I'm thinking around 35 weeks, with the exception of daily use stuff as you mentioned.  I just had a friend go into labor with her first a 36 weeks exactly.  I had DS (by inducement) at 38 weeks.  I think I will be going early, so I want to be ready.
  • I am planning on packing it a few days before my induction at 38 weeks.  If I go before my induction it will be an emergency situation so we will just grab what we can.

  • I ended up on hospital bedrest last time at 33.5 weeks. I didn't have my bag packed, but I had made a list and put it in the bag so it was easy for my mom to stop by and find all the stuff I had on it. I kept the list and have added to it so I think I will do that again this time. Hopefully I get to pack myself at 36 weeks or so.

  • I'm a planner, so I've already started packing mine. I just have some of the extra toiletries packed that I'd like to have that I know I won't need before then. And I have a great list that I've compiled from the advice of different friends, so I can pack the rest in a hurry if need be. My best friend got surprised at week 34, so I want to be prepared. :)
  • I'm planning on starting to pack it around 35 weeks with all of the stuff that I know I won't use between then and when i give birth. But i"ll also make sure we have everything else readily available to throw in in case anything happens. My SIL went into labor at exactly 36 weeks and didn't have anything ready (luckily I had done a bag for her for her shower the day before). So I want to avoid that in case it happens.
  • I'm thinking around the beginning of June too, I'm due July 1.  I figured for my toothbrush, etc. I'd just use my normal traveling set that I have packed all the time.  That way I wouldn't have to worry about throwing it in last minute, I'd have everything all ready to go.

  • I will probably pack my bag around the middle of June. I was induced with DS, but this LO is going to come when he is ready so I am going to pack it about 4 weeks early, just in case.

  • Probably once my water breaks. I'll have a list of stuff to take (to make packing quicker), but most of the stuff I'm going to take is stuff I use on a daily basis anyways (charger, camera, etc), so it would be pointless to pack it early.

I plan on wearing the hospital clothes as much as possible until they make me take them off, so it's not like I'm bringing a huge bag with tons of stuff.

I've already got a list going and I"ll be having a RCS, but I plan to actually pack the bag at 35/36 weeks. I have travel sizes of all my toiletries and an extra toothbrush so the only things I will be throwing in last minute will be a few makeup items and hair things, along with our phones, laptop, and chargers.

  • I am being induced June 20th at 37 weeks so I will probably pack my bag the week before. I am done with work for the summer Wed and baby comes the following Monday so I have a few days to do it!

  • Probably when I go into labor!

I'm not a big planner.  I'll probably just throw some stuff in bag and go.  Anything I forget, DH can get at the CVS across from the hospital later on....or run back home to get. Hopefully I will only be there 2 days...so I won't need much.

I don't plan on having DH stay by my side 24 -7 after LO is born though...I would like DH to be able to go home after LO is born to get some sleep in our bed (I can't imagine anyone sleeping well in a hospital...even a recovery suite!) and comfort our puppies who will have been wondering where we have been!  Plus, we want to bring home a blanket that smells like LO for pups to get used to prior to our arrival home.

  • After my 3rd small baby shower, around week 36! Of course, will need to pack last minute things - thinking I'll write a list to help us w/ that part though b/c we'll be in a hurry I'm sure! Stick out tongue
  • with my first i went on a trip and had my bags packed for that and brought her clothes just in case and i was 35 weeks and 6 days, my water broke that night and i had her at 36 weeks  so with this one i think ima pack mine early in the next couple of weeks with main things and just write a reminder on my calendar to grab like tooth brush and things like that but i kinda have a feeling that i will go early again, i have been having dreams i will and been getting bh contractions like crazy. so i will probably pack around 33 34 weeks  which is in the next 2 to 3 weeks
