I have tons and tons and tons of baby clothes and now blankets, bibs, burp clothes, sleep sacks, etc and I just can't bring myself to wash anything yet. This is OK right? What if I want to exchange some stuff yet, what if she grows like a weed and never wears some things?I just don't see the big deal about getting all of baby's clothes washed before they are even born. And *gasp* I'm not using Dreft. My DH and I have been using Method or Seventh Generation Free & Clear products for years so we'll just continue that. A friend of mine just had a baby less than a month ago and she did several loads of baby laundry before his arrival, then since she was team green, she got tons and tons more baby clothes and had to keep doing loads of laundry to get everything clean. It just seemed a bit excessive...

Re: When are you washing all of LO's things?
3 more miscarriages and finally a correct diagnosis (septate uterus) and a corrective uterine surgery later, our second blessing is here!
We're going to wash blankets, sheets, and the first size of clothing (NB/3 month depending on estimated baby size) around week 36-38 depending on what my body is doing (signs of going early, etc.). I'm just going to wash the clothes she will be using in the next 2-3 weeks and keep the tags on the rest in case we need to return them. Around week 34 I'm going to lay all of the clothing out on her changing table with a note on how to wash it in case she surprises us and my mom has to come wash clothes while I'm in the hospital.
We're not doing a bunch right now, but I do think it will be important to get it done prior to getting home from the hospital. The last thing I'm going to have time/energy for after getting home with a newborn is doing laundry so they can go to sleep that night.
I've read many articles/talked to many mom's who agree that Dreft is not that great. The added "new baby" fragrance they add can irritate skin. Most things just recommend using a Free and Clear product and adjusting if needed as baby does or does not react.

I washed 2 loads of basics and that's about it.
Sometimes I grab and item or two to round out a load I need to fill of our stuff.
I'm not too worried. I'll wash as I need. Laundry isn't a big deal to me. That and most of my stuff is handmedowns from close family that's been washed numerous times and washed before it was sent to me, so if I don't do it again, it'll be fine.
I can't recommend enough to resist washing everything! There is so much stuff DS never got to wear that I wasn't able to return! Either they were "cuter/nicer" outfits I was waiting for just the right occasion (and by the time it came they were too small!) or he just had too much stuff that he didn't wear it all.
Also I had items that I would hold up to him thinking "no way too big still" and by the time I thought they would fit, they were too small!
Wash in small batches. And I started with Dreft and DS got irritated by it so we have been using Arm and Hammer free since. Since all the dye free detergents have come out I think Dreft is obsolete.

I went through her 0-3 mo clothing, bought a few more things to round it out, and almost have it all washed. Anything larger than that is organized by size in plastic bins with the tags on still in case she never wears it so I can return it or get a better resale value.
We're skipping Dreft as we use All Free & Clear anyway.
The Sand in My Snow Boots
I washed eveything last weekend. We already had everything from our first since we are having another girl. I went through the clothes since we are having a garage sale in a few weeks.
I never used Dreft. We use Tide Free & Clear or Purex Free & Clear. We switched when we had our first.
I wash it as a I get it for anything up to 3 months.
I'll wash the "bigger than 3 months" later on. She's not going to be a big baby by any means, so I figure I have some time.

I washed everything already. That said, I haven't had a baby shower either. So, anything we get from the shower won't be washed.
We used Ecos free detergent to wash everything because it was CD safe. We will never use deft. That stuff is disgusting. So many chemicals and fragrances. No thanks!
We'll miss you sweet Debbie Girl (4.21.12) and sweet Cindy Girl (8.9.12)

I have hand me downs from my first son and clothes I have purchased at consignment sales. Those I washed about 2 weeks ago. Anything new I will probably hold off on until after he is born.
My first son was only 5 lbs 8 onz when he was born so I had done all this laudry and he didn't wear it for months. I learned my lesson
I just use my regular detergent for the laundry, If he turns out to have sensitive skin I can always re-wash everything.
I plan to wash everything after DH finishes painting the baby's dresser and brings it inside. I know he/she won't wear some things for a while, but I don't want to put them away unwashed, and I do want to put everything away! The nursery is so cluttered right now!
I'm planning to keep all the clothes, blankets, etc. that we've gotten as gifts. We're team green and planning to have more kids, so I figure we'll use everything eventually.
We use Charlie's laundry soap powder since we're CD'ing.

I'll wait till after my shower mid-june-ish to wash anything, and then probably only a small load of newborn stuff that I really like & know i'll use. then go from there and see growth, use etc...
As far as soap goes, i dont think Dreft really makes a huge difference, just make sure you use very little soap and make sure things get rinsed thoroughly.
