How are all of you ladies picking a pediatrician? Are you going by word of mouth from other friends or your doctors? Is it silly to think that a baby boy would/should go to a boy doctor? Or would it be silly to send him to a lady doctor?
I asked for rec's and then conducted interviews. You can call the nurse/office manager and interview over the phone, or most pedis will also set up an in-person interview.
I don't think it's silly to want your DS to go to a male dr. Lots of people prefer someone of the same gender.
There are lots of things to consider, and you could probably find a list of questions to ask online. I've been to several pedis, and I've found there isn't one who is perfect in every way I want them to be. But, the one we have now is good in the areas that are most important to us.
We went based on recs from other people everyone DH and I work with all said the same practice, also they were the ones that we are the hospital. We went with a practice of 8 doctors so DD sees both males and females. Her primary is a male that actually saw her at the hospital and we were so happy with him we never changed. We do see other doctors if she is sick and her primary dr doesn't have an appt time that day. Everyone recommended different drs at the practice but it wasn't until we had seem many of them that we really decided which ones we will see and which ones we won't.
We originally were going to go with someone who my friends recommended but my pediatrician growing up ended up seeing DD in the hospital and taking her on as a patient (she wasn't accepting new patients so that's why we didn't pick her at first). Our DS will see the same pediatrician so he will be seeing a female doctor. I really don't think it matters. We can always change when he's older if he is uncomfortable.
