Let's play "Illness or Allergies"...

We came back from MD the Monday after Easter. Both kids then developed 103 fevers for a couple of days, then nasty respiratory ick.

It's now over a week and a half later and we're still having to run the vaporizers every night and do decongestants. They're hacking like 3 pack a day smokers.

In the last week everything around here has burst into bloom-- flowers, trees, you name it. It's also been very rainy except for the last 2 nice days.

They're both getting Zyrtec daily but it doesn't seem to be doing much good after about 12-14 hours.

Is there some respiratory funk going around or are they just overwhelmed with pollen?

I've had seasonal allergies my entire life, and I can't remember a month as bad as this one has been...

I think they probably had a virus over Easter (fever) and most recently are suffering with allergies like so many others. Plus, don't you live in the woods? I start itching thinking about it!

    Bring on the rain!

  • We do live in the woods. It's been so cold and rainy that everything bloomed at the same time. It's crazy.

I am pretty snotty and sneezy and my allergy meds are next to useless, too.

I will be glad when the pollen is under control.

  • We had something similiar a few weeks back.  It seriously took me like 2.5 weeks to fully get over it.  The kids were a little shorter time frame but it was bad.

  • DD and I have been suffering with allergies like crazy lately.  I had to take out my contacts last night, because my eyes were so itchy.  (I very rarely remove them).

DD is on Zyrtec and a nasal spray and she's STILL itching and sneezing.
  • We went through the same exact thing. Three weeks of illness, and awful, awful coughs. I kept giving allergy meds figuring that's what it was, but they ended up all having pneumonia. If it has been three weeks it is worth a visit to the dr. Good luck! FWIW, my kids were 110% better within 18 hours, it was amazing.
