When we went in for our first IUI the nurse told us that DH's sperm had a lot of mucus in it and was very viscous. They recommended that if IUI #1 didn't work that he might want to start taking Mucinex to help with this. I was wondering if anyone else's DH takes this on a regular basis? Has it worked? and how much do they take each day?

Re: Mucinex
I know it works for a lot of people to help thin out the mucus. It'd be worth a shot!
You should also know that sometimes it dries person out instead of just thinning it. That's what happened to me. It's easier to catch if that's what's happening to a woman, but I'm not sure how you could even observe the changes in mucus for a man. ::shrugs:: Just something to be potentially cautious about.
I have not heard of guys using it. But if you are continuing to do IUIs, how would it have an effect? Don't they separate the sperm from the semen before they put it into the uterus?

Baby N conceived after 1 miscarriage and more than 2 years of TTC. Diagnosis was low sperm count. We found success after 3 months of anastrozole to increase DH's testosterone and one IUI.

I'm stupid. You're smart. I was wrong. You were right. You're the best. I'm the worst. You're very good-looking. I'm not attractive. - Happy Gilmore
This is why I thought to ask. I had never heard of them using Mucinex and didn't know if it would do any good. I was so over whelmed by the whole first IUI experience I forgot to ask the nurse which is the person who recommended it. I don't know if I will have DH take it or not
