Looks like I am having a shower anyways

Ugh.  This is just a whiny vent so feel free to ignore me.  I had a huge baby shower in February of 2010 before DS was born.  I have made it very clear to all friends and family that I do NOT want a baby shower this time around.  I have made my opinion known that I think it is gift grabby and tacky.  

My mom and MIL have been bugging me for weeks, telling me that I need to have a shower because this baby is a girl, blah blah blah.  I have told them both no several times.  Now they have SIL on board.  SIL texted DH about throwing me a surprise shower.  DH told them no, but said he is pretty sure they are throwing me one anyways.

Not a whole lot I can do about it now I guess.

Obviously you live in a family that doesn't understand the meaning of "no".  I guess if it is a "surprise" shower people will know you REALLY had nothing to do with it.  Just go with the flow and enjoy yourself.  ...and kudoes to your DH for giving you the "heads up" regarding the surprise shower - I hate those!!!

Holy "won't take no for an answer" family... oh well, I guess all you can do is sit back and enjoy it. Do the people throwing it for you a favor and be grateful because it must mean a lot to them.

I agree with PP's but even if you didn't want it, I'd still definitely be gracious & make it known that you are "BLOWN AWAY" surprised, as in-- completely unexpected over the top shock (since DH already told you).. maybe it's just important to them that this baby be received as special as well, or maybe they don't feel it's tacky. I'm in the air on that myself, depending on age difference/ gender difference/ actual need.

Ha-- I had a feeling that was coming as well, so flat out told DH's family I would not be traveling down to them until well after LO was born. It's way too far in the car at this point anyway.

They couldn't figure out a way to "suprise" me and dropped the whole thing.
