Pregnant after a Loss

Stretch marks?

So, I think I'm already starting to get some, mostly on my legs/upper thighs (although to be fair, I think with weight that I gained before I had a few already).  So, I bought some Palmer's Belly Butter.  Anyone getting stretch marks already?  Anyone have any opinions on the Belly Butter?

From what I hear, it's pretty much genetic and no cream, lotion, or oil will really get rid of it.  That being said, there's a large market for these kinds of things, so there's gotta be some people there who believe in their effectiveness!

I guess for now I am going to take my chances, but I need lotion all over me because I am itchy all.the.time these days!

  • I figured that even if it's not the "magic eraser", it will still be a good moisturizer any way Smile

Exactly what Hadley said.  Nothing really helps - some people are just pre-disposed to 'em.  I read that they tend to appear when people put on a large amount of weight quickly, rather than gradually.  I have some stretch marks from when I was younger.  However, I used Palmer's when I was pg and I didn't get any new stretch marks and it helped tremendously with the itchy skin.  Plan to use it this time around too!

  • I've used Mustella and I really like it. I know genetics are the largest factor but w/my first pregnancy I almost always forgot to lotion my boobs and that is the only place I got a few tiny stretch marks. I also used their after product and it reduce the marks on my boob greatly. Genetics or lotion I continue to use the product b/c it's a good lotion but you have to sir dry for a few minutes or you'll sweat!

  • Ive heard the whole genetic thing but honestly I have stretch marks on my hips from growing years and  years ago, not real noticeable but they are there.  With DD I used Palmer's Tummy butter from about 20 weeks on and I do not have 1 single stretch mark on my belly.  I will never know if I would of never got them, but I will use it again.  Its kinda messy but it does feel good on the stretching skin and it always helped relieve the crazy itching.

  • Fingers crossed, I have not yet gotten any on my belly, and I've been putting palmers cocoa butter lotion on my belly everyday since day 1. And I am prone to stretch marks, as I have a couple on my side that I got in teenage years. And I've been putting the palmers there too and they've definitely faded to almost not visible...mind you this is every day for the past 9 months. I know that they say its genetic, and I honestly don't know if my mom had any with me (she passed away when I was young), but if anything, it is good to keep that skin moisturized as it stretches! (watch, now that I posted this, I'm going to have some on my belly tomorrow when I wake up!)

  • I read the same thing as PP's about them being genetic, but even more surprising that they happen from deeper within the skin, so nothing topical that you do will affect them.  That's said (I don't believe everything I read), I have been using Burts Bees belly balm.  Even if it does nothing to prevent stretch marks I still love how it keeps things moisturized as the tight skin gets so itchy.  And consequently I don't have any stretch marks yet, so maybe.....
