Almost lost my finger (long NBR)

I usually take my rings off before I go to bed because I had this phobia that I would fall asleep and my fingers would swell (apparently it was a valid phobia.) Last night I went to bed later than usual and forgot to take them off. Around 4 am I noticed my hand felt really weird and so I started feeling it and my entire hand was swollen, I tried to take off my rings and it was impossible.

I ended up waking up my husband because I was freaking out, he though something was wrong with the baby so he flew out of bed while Im yelling at him to go grab the baby oil (he was very confused as to why I really needed it). We both went into the bathroom and turned on the light and my ring finger was blue and you couldn't see the sides of my ring my finger was so swollen. After frantically working with soap water and anything else slippery, I finally got the ring off. My hand is still hurting but my fingers aren't swollen anymore. Apparently now when Im sleeping my fingers turn into mini sausages.

So ladies I warn you if you are still able to fit into your rings great but take them off at night!

  • My sister had to cut her rings off when she had my nephews.  Its a scary thought.  Glad you were able to get them off.

  • Scary!  Glad you go them off.  I only put mine on when I leave the house and I have a couple that I used to wear on my right ring finger (which is bigger) and I now wear them on my left in place of my regular rings if my fingers swell.

OMG, that's scary.  I'm pretty sure that if my finger turned blue and was so swollen I couldn't see the ring I would've been freaking out!  Glad it all turned out okay.

  • Stick out tongue I must be weird, I can't sleep in rings, even pre-pregnancy...because if I did, I would wake up with a mini sausage for a finger, just like that.  I have never understood how anyone can sleep with rings on and not lose a finger.

Yeah, it was pretty scary. I almost started crying but I was so shocked and asleep that my brain kept telling me  "If you cry you wont be able to see to get your rings off" It was weird. But thankfully yes I got them off, Im just so happy that I didn't have to go to the ER and have them cut off.

  • Wow! I had to move one of my rings from my middle finger to my ring finger. Something that helps to take rings off swollen fingers is windex...I never knew it before, but a jeweler told my mom that once and it was the only thing that would help me get my ring off the other day!
