Cloth Diapering

Daycare CD moms ?

I typically post on my BMB, but have some questions about cloth diapering. I will be a working mom, and LO will go to daycare. The daycare has approved CD'ing, but I have some questions.

1. Which brands do you find are the easiest/most daycare friendly to use for your LO in daycare?

2. Do you use the same diapers for LO at home? Or something different? (ie several brands?)

3. What is your typical CD routine with daycare? What works for you? Can you describe a typical day as far as CDs go at daycare?

 Thanks in advance!

Re: Daycare CD moms ?

  • 1. Which brands do you find are the easiest/most daycare friendly to use for your LO in daycare? We primarily use BG Elementals for daycare because they're AIO and very easy for daycare staff to use. If we're behind on laundry for some reason, we'll occasionally send some grovia AI2s.

    2. Do you use the same diapers for LO at home? Or something different? (ie several brands?) About half of our stash is BG Elemental and half is fitteds with covers. We also have a few grovia AI2. We've tried several diapers but these are the ones that fit DS the best so we've sold off others that didn't work for us (e.g., gdiapers, rumparooz, blueberry)

    3. What is your typical CD routine with daycare? What works for you? Can you describe a typical day as far as CDs go at daycare? We usually take in 5 diapers in a wet bag in the mornings. (DS only goes to daycare 3 days a week) That bag is sent home in the evenings full of soiled diapers. We used to take in 7, but that ended up being too many and there was a huge stash there. There's still usually a little stash that builds up over time, at which point I'll skip a day bringing diapers in. Anyway, we wash diapers from daycare the next day with the diaper laundry from home. We do have 2 wet bags since sometimes we don't get to laundry before needing to take more diapers in.

  • We will jsut be starting with CD at daycare next week but...

Our routine will pretty much be the same as previous poster (take 5 diapers each day, provide wet bag for them to throw the dirties in, bring home wets at night and wash - or wash the next day).

As for brands I think you have to find BRANDS that work best for you (price wise AND fit wise) but their are TYPES that are easier for DC. Specifically you will want pocket diapers, or all in ones.  We are using pocket diapers because 1.) they seem to be chepaer thatn AIOs and 2.) they seem easier to care for (they aren't as thick as AIOs so easier to really get clean all teh way through and quicker to dry).  With the pocket diapers, we will pre-stuff them with the liners before sending them tod aycare so the only step teh daycare has to take is putting it on just like a sposie.

You certainly can still use these at home but we do not simply because we didn't want to buy a TON of them (for financial reasons) so we are jsut going to have what we need for day care (about 10 so we have 2 days worth). At home we use prefolds (check out Green Mountain Diapers) with covers.  THis is probably the cpeaest cloth dipaering route. You can get prefolds for about $3 each and the covers for about $10 (depending on brand, if they're on sale, etc.)  You can reuse the covers for multiple chagnes before washing so you don't need that many of them (maybe just 2 or 3 since you will only be using them at night and on weekends).

And alot of people then have special night time diapers that are better for leaks or special inserts that are more absorbant, etc.  We don't have that and as of yet it hasn't been a problem but if you hav a heavy wetter you may need to add some special night routine.

    Good luck!

I usually find my BG's and rumparooz are the easiest, but I also bring the Fuzzibunz also!

    2. Do you use the same diapers for LO at home? Or something different? (ie several brands?)

I use the same ones at home also, but I also use prefolds at home also.  Those are easier for me and I do not have to wash as often,

    3. What is your typical CD routine with daycare? What works for you? Can you describe a typical day as far as CDs go at daycare?

I usually pack about 5 diapers.  I have them change her every couple hours.  I bring my own hanging wet bag and take it with me at the end of the day.  I also pack liners so that poopy messes are contained!

    1. Which brands do you find are the easiest/most daycare friendly to use for your LO in daycare? We use mostly BG Elemental or 4.0's for daycare w/a few random diapers mixed in when we need to do laundry (all aplix or front snaps.)

    2. Do you use the same diapers for LO at home? Or something different? (ie several brands?) We use the Elemental's and BottomBumpers while out and about and in the house we use fitteds or prefolds and wool.

    3. What is your typical CD routine with daycare? What works for you? Can you describe a typical day as far as CDs go at daycare? We bring 6 diapers in the dry portion of a wet/dry bag and attach a xs wet bag w/wipes. She sends the dirty's home in the wet portion of the bag. I wash every other to every 3 days.

     Thanks in advance!

  • 1. I use one-size velcro pockets. We send them prestuffed and I gave them a tutorial the first day I dropped her off. We have mostly BumGenius, Blueberries and Happy Heinys but those are what fits DD the best. I sometimes send her to daycare in a snap diaper.

    2. They're part of our regular rotation, since we're a pocket house. I use some snaps at home, but DH prefers velcro. At least half our stash is velcro.  We have enough diapers to make it three days if need be.

    3. I am neurotic, so I always oversend diapers. I send at least 6, sometimes 7 or 8 (she went with 7 this morning because she went through a ton yesterday.) I send the stuffed diapers and a wet bag. They toss diapers in the wet bag and I sort them and dump any poop every evening. I wash every other day, generally

  • I'm a lurker coming out :)

    1. Thirsties duo diapers size 1 with Aplix. I think it is easier than snaps. Also, the Thirsties fit her better than BG's

    2. We usually use prefolds at home due to cost and cloth wipes at home.

    3. It depends on how many dc sends home, i.e. Mon night dcp sends 3 home, so we send 3 back. We try to make sure they have 5 -7 there. They put them in a plastic bag  (dcp regs) and then in our wetbag. We bring diapers home, make sure they are ready for the wash, i.e. out of plastic bags and velcro in proper place. WE wash every other day. DC uses disposable wipes.  FWIW, our dd is the only one at dcp that is cloth diapered, but the people don't seem to mind them.

  • 1. I did pockets of all kinds. Aplix works best, some of the people at my DC have a hard time with snaps.

    2. Yes, we did the same at home.

    3. I send a bag of diapers and a wetbag every day. When I pick her up, I take it all home. DC can't plop or scrape poop, so we deal with that when we get home. They change her and put the diapers in the wetbag. Easy peasy. I always sent 8 diapers (she didn't start DC until she was 2), even though she only went through 4-5.

  • Thank you for all the helpful responses! Our LO will be the only one in cloth at daycare, so I feel like I need to be the one to be prepared with how this will work. So excited that our daycare is open to trying it!

    1.  I bought some BG 3.0s on clearance to send to daycare.

    2.  We won't be using the same diapers; we have mostly diapers with snaps in our stash.

    3.  Haven't started yet, so I can't help you here!
