NBR: New Washer/Dryer Recs

We need a new washer, so we are also going to buy a new dryer to match. Does anyone have a recommendation on a front loading washer and dryer? I would love to hear any feedback you may have. TIA!

  • If you want to save some money, the top-loader high efficiency models use the same amount of water as the front-loaders, but cost a LOT less.  I love our Whirlpool Cabrios.  Also, a top-loader has the added bonus of being able to throw something in after the cycle has started.  With a front-loader, once you start, you can't open the door.

We went with the top loader Cabrio because of this, and because consumer reports (at the time ..3 years ago) had very mixed reviews on front loaders.  Plus, my friend had a front loader and HATED it (door would get mildewy, seal was breaking...it was a nightmare, so that scared me.)

The Cabrio HE is amazing.  Its my favorite appliance in the house!  Seriously!  Plus, we bought a REALLY BIG one.  So laundry is done in 1/2 the time.  LOVE IT.

  • We purchased Kenmore 3.5 front loader washer and dryer last July and LOVE LOVE LOVE them!!!!!!

I can fit so much in them, which means less laundry for me!!! I can also put our queen size comforter in them which for me is awesome! There are lots of different settings and wash cycles to choose from! Here is the link to the washer:

We purchased at sears and got a great deal! GL!

  • Thanks ladies for the feedback! There are so many options out there, that it's nice to hear what others like or don't like.

  • We have the Electrolux front loaders. Just the basic ones, not the steam ones. I love them, as one of the PP said you can fit so much more laundry in there. I like the Electrolux because they have a quick wash feature that gets the load done in like 20 minutes, I don't use it a lot, but its nice if I need something washed quick or I'm just doing a small load. Always gets the clothes clean too. I also notice I use less laundry soap.

Just a FYI if you haven't had a front loader before, be sure to leave the washer door open after washes otherwise it'll get stinky and moldy in there because they don't dry out well with the door closed. Also, run a HE washing machine cleaner through the washer once a month.

  • I spent easily a MONTH researching washers and dryers.  I feel your pain!  We ended up w/GE Profile washer/dryer set.  I worship them.  DH says they look like space ships, which they do compared to our last 1 knob top loaders lol

  • We also have the samsung front loaders but without the steam. I love them. I would echo the pp comment that you need to wipe the water off the rubber seal and leave the door open to let it dry out after you use it. If you forget (or like in my case, DH forgets) and it gets smelly you can just run an empty load with plain bleach and it kills anything and cleans it well.
