Babies: 0 - 3 Months

When did you drop the middle of the night feeding?

For a few weeks Zachary was sleeping from 10pm until about 6am - then he started getting up again at between 2am and 4am.  When and how did you drop that middle of the night feeding?

  • If I were you I'd get ready to be flamed b/c everyone is going to tell you that the baby makes the decision....not you. However, that being said, I dont always agree at this age. Depends on the baby and the situation. We used Sleep Easy Solution and DD now sleeps 7 pm- 7 or 8 am with one dream feed before I go to bed. She still takes same amt of formula...just during the day now. Good luck!
  • I just feed her when she wakes up.  I assume she is waking up because she is hungry.  She has been sttn the past week with the exception of last night.  She got up once to nurse.....going through a growth spurt I guess.

  • I agree that you want baby to drop it; however, inject a little common sense into the equation, too. When baby J was 6mo, two drs told me he didn't need the night feeding any more - that he was waking up wanting a bottle out of habit. I didn't give it to him that night, and he hasn't cried for it since.

I have a friend with 2 year old twins. They still haven't given it up - and they go through EIGHT BOTTLES EVERY NIGHT!!! Can you imagine?!?

  • We feed on demand so at 6 months we still have nighttime feedings.
  • If he wakes up I feed him, unless he was up in the last hour.  He still eats 2-3 times a night and he EATS not just snacks.

  • At 3 months they are still hungry if they are waking up so feed them.

I he sleeping longer in the day?  Causing him to want to nurse more at night?

DD didn't drop her middle of the night feeding until 10 months.
