Grandmother vent

Okay I'm just really annoyed, and I need to vent.  My dad told me last night that my grandmother made a comment last week, saying that I haven't been to her house in about a year.  Besides the fact that she's being way overdramatic and it hasn't been nearly a year, she has not called or emailed me (yes, my grandmother emails) since I've been pregnant at all.  In fact, she never calls me, even before being pregnant.  But everyone always says "that's just the way she is."  So why does she get to pick on everyone else then for what she considers to be an inadequate effort?  I live an hour away from her, have a full time job, a 3-hour round trip daily commute, I go to school part time in the evenings, have a new house, and a husband...and now I'm knocked up.  I see her at least once a month either at my house, or we go out to dinner as a family, and I call her or email her to check in and say hello.  Really, what does she want from me?  Am I being a b*tch?

Re: Grandmother vent

  • I would say no you are not. It was hard when I moved away from home to remember to call my grandmother every week. I called her last Monday and told her we were having a girl. I then get an email from my Mom saying I didn't call. My Grandmother is getting very forgetful and so I just suck it up and call again and again. She asks me 2 or 3 times in the same conversation the same question. I just answer it again like she never asked to begin with.

  • This sounds like my grandma on my dad's side.  She complains to my dad that I never go see them.  Well, she never invites DH and I over (even for holidays), and they chain smoke in their house, so I really don't care to go visit, especially now that I'm pregnant.  For Thanksgiving, Easter and now Mother's Day, she'll invite my parents over, but not DH and me.  Obviously this doesn't make us feel very welcomed so we choose not to go.  I'll give her a call on Sunday and tell her happy mother's day, but that's it.  Maybe I'm being stubborn, but I don't care.
