For the last week or two I was sort of feeling like crap - really tired and run down, no energy, can't focus, all of that. And I felt like at 20+ weeks, shouldn't I have more energy than this? So I looked at what I had been eating - yeah, I was lucky if there were 2 servings of veggies in my diet every day. I was eating so much crap! So I guess anything good that I was eating, LO was just stealing all of the nutrients from, and not leaving me any. A friend of mine wound up in the hospital for a couple of days at 32 weeks for exactly this reason - LO was perfectly healthy and happy, while my friend couldn't even stand up on her own because LO was stealing all of the nutrients
So this week, I decided to step it up, and start paying attention and making an effort to eat better - breakfasts have been plain oatmeal with strawberries, craisins and almonds (no more bagels with cream cheese), snacks have all been either fruit, hard-boiled egg whites, or greek yogurt, lunches have been baby spinach salads with all kinds of fruits, veggies, egg whites, and nuts with light honey balsamic dressing (OMG, so good!), and I've had another spinach salad with dinner every night, or last night I tossed a couple of handfuls of baby spinach in my chicken/mushroom pasta instead of making a salad.
And I feel SO MUCH BETTER this week! I have a ton more energy, I'm not so sleepy, I've been more productive at work, and I just feel better overall. I guess this was just sort of a PSA for anyone that is maybe feeling like I was - check your diet. There's a reason that nutrition is so important, especially for pg woman!
Re: Eating better really does make you feel better. Who knew?
I really need to eat better myself. I just stand in the kitchen and stare into my fridge, hoping the answer will jump out onto my plate... but the only thing that ever appeals to me is carbs...
I feel like crap, maybe this is why. Thanks for posting.
