Baby Names

opinions please!

Hi, I don't post much but I want some honest opinions on the baby names we've picked out.  We're not finding out if we're having a boy or a girl, and we are keeping the names a secret from everybody, although my mother is pretty sure she knows what the girl name is (I've told her she's semi-correct).

Boy:  Carlin Hayes

Girl:  Coraline Jeannette

Thanks in advance!

  • I like Jeannette and Hayes. If I read Carlin, I would think it is a girl.

thanks guys.  We've both been leaning away from Carlin for awhile (thinking a nickname would be Carl - we don't like that at all).  We're thinking of Christopher instead.  & I agree that Carlin sounds more like a girl's name but apparently is unisex.

  • Coraline looks like you were typing Caroline too fast, is that what happened?

Carlin sounds like a trendy girls name.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • I LOVE Coraline!!

Carlin is NMS, but not bad.  I agree I may think it's a girl if I just saw it in writing.

Nope, Cora was my Grandfather's (Hayes) mother's name.  My cousin told me recently I should use the name since she never got to (she only had boys)  & there was a movie that came out a couple years ago "Coraline" and I've loved the name ever since.

  • Carlin does kind of look like a girl, but I love Hayes! It's my DS's middle name!

Thanks everyone.  You've confirmed exactly what we were thinking  We've decided to scratch Carlin and go with Christopher (after his brother).  So now all the names have a family meaning which makes me very happy.  Smile

Christopher is MUCH better. Nice choice!

  • Christopher is a great name, much better than Carlin. :)

I also love Coraline. Good choices!

  • Love the girl name.

The boy name is bad, to be honest.  Like the PP's said, Carlin sounds like a girl.  I like your other choice for a boy name (Christopher) better.

  • I may not be pronouncing it right, but when I see Coraline I see "coralline" which is a type of algae that grows in salt water aquariums (my husband has one). It's a good kind of algae, but I can't think or anything but that when people mention that name for a person!

  • I just looked it up and apparently it is pronounced the same. Cora-line (I thought it may be Cora-lyn). Definitely can only associate it with algae now.
