Another Zoloft question

I just started it yesterday, a real small dose (25 mg), and I'm noticing some side effects already.  I'm curious how long these will last, if they will get better/go away or if I should already be calling for something different or maybe even taking only half a pill to start.

I'm having my thyroid tested because I was having nervous jittery feeling a lot.  I'm noticing this feeling is a lot worse after taking my first does of Zoloft yesterday afternoon.  I had a really hard time falling asleep last night (and I shouldn't have since I only got about 4 hrs of sleep the previous night).  Those are the two major things I've noticed.  There are other little side effects (dry mouth, not diarrhea but loose stools and more often) a little dizziness.

My concern is if these symptoms arent going to go away soon (mostly the jittery nervous feeling) I'm gonna stop taking this for now since I've only taken one dose.  We are going on vacation next week and I dont want to feel all jittery and nervous all week.

  • You need to give your body time to adjust to the new medication. Don't give up just yet. Try to see if you can get through a month before you think about ditching the meds.

My guess is all of your symptoms are anxiety related. I have pretty much all of those symptoms when I am anxious.

I would give it more time. I hope you feel better soon!

I'm happy to give it a chance, this nervous feeling is just bothersome and would rather not being going through this next week on vacation.  Didn't know if I should just wait and start the meds back up after vacation or if I should back down to half a pill for a couple weeks to help my body get used to the change.

I've never been on meds like this so this is all new to me.

Never thought about that.  I notice a small side effect and it seems worse because of anxiety.....makes sense.

When you start to get nervous, repeat to yourself over and over that you will be fine, It's just nerves and you will not let anxiety take over your life any longer. Close your eyes and take deep breaths. You will be okay! (((HUGS)))

  • I find it hard to believe you would be having side effects from one 25mg dose of zoloft.  It takes about 2 weeks for the meds to build up in your system....so I could see after a week or so but less than 24 hours after taking it?  I would say it's anxiety related and your mind effing with you!  Hang in there!
  • It took me a few weeks for the "jittery feeling" to go away, but I take a way higher dosage than you. I've found that taking it after a meal & at the same time everyday really helps limit the side effects.

Try not to be discouraged, but it took me almost a year to find the right combo/dosage of meds that helped my anxiety, depression & PTSD. It's not a magical pill that will instantly make you feel better. Give it some time.

  • Thanks ladies.  I wasn't planning on giving up, just didn't know if this was normal, or if I should hold off until after vacation so I dont have to worry about dealing with side effects.  I will give it a couple days and if its still really bothersome I will call the Dr and see what they suggest.  Thanks again!  Its a beautiful day (well the sun is out, not all too warm though) and I'm looking forward to getting stuff done

  • Keep with it, from days 3-7, on 25mg, I felt nauseous/like I was pregnant, and since have had no side effects.
  • I was on zoloft for about a year, i'm just switching to something else now the zoloft didn't really help.  However, I will say that I had to start taking my zoloft in the morning b/c I couldn't sleep when I took it at night.  So maybe that would be an option to counteract that side effect?
