Trouble TTC

One-year TTC appointment tomorrow.

I'm scheduled for my yearly checkup & one-year TTC appointment tomorrow with my midwife. I'll hopefully be finding out what the next step is (either referral to an RE now, or testing & then referral).

That's all for now, I guess. Just needed to put this out there. Wish me luck :)

Re: One-year TTC appointment tomorrow.

  • Hi and welcome!

I would recommend you go straight to the RE to avoid having to do testing twice and being able to get them done more quickly.  I started testing with my OB, but she only did one test per cycle and she also didn't accurately read my husband's SA and caused us a significant delay in treatment.

    Good luck!

Baby N conceived after 1 miscarriage and more than 2 years of TTC. Diagnosis was low sperm count. We found success after 3 months of anastrozole to increase DH's testosterone and one IUI.

Whether you get refered to an RE for testing or testing then referal - testing is clearly in your future.  I wish you good luck for speedy results and a good plan moving forward.

  • Thanks for the replies, ladies. I intro'd a couple weeks ago & have since been lurking & occasionally replying to other's posts.

I figure we'll get started with the standard SA & HSG. I tend to have long, sometimes annovulatory cycles, so maybe Clomid is in my future. Because of you ladies, I know not to accept Clomid without monitoring, so I'll probably see about going straight to an RE. Plus, as was mentioned, I don't want to have to get tested twice.

It's a little intimidating, I'll admit. Add to it that I'm a researcher by nature, & it gets even worse. I've stayed away from IF research for the most part, until I have something more to go on. But I hate not having something to read up on yet. I just have to remember, "Patience is a virtue". (Funny story, my dad used to say that to me all the time - I was quite the impatient child - & I always thought he was saying, "Patience is avert you". No idea why or what I thought it was supposed to mean... maybe patience is washing over you, like a Jedi mind trick? Anyway, I was a good bit older when I finally realized what he was actually saying.)

  • Hello and Welcome!

Just my $.02 I sometimes feel like I wasted months (almost a year) with my OB. If you can I would try to go straight to an RE. I love my OB and trusted her a lot but I always wonder where I would be if I would have gotten a referral to an RE sooner. She did all my testing and it seemed like she took forever I swear it was one test a month. Once all the testing was over she sent us on our way. Also my DH SA came back normal to them only to find out once we seen a RE that there standards were different and his SA really wasn't all that normal.

Good luck! I hope you get the answers you need.
