About eating your placenta......I am somewhat speechless about this and was unsure I should even bring it up because I understand to each their own but I honestly cannot stop thinking about it. I have never heard of eating your placenta to help with PPD and I guess as a vet I can understand it's good for nutrients(animals eat their placentas) but I have never seen this discussed here and just felt like I had to see what you ladies thought about this. Some people are talking about making smoothies....

Re: Very interesting discussion on my BMB...(placenta eating mentioned)
I've read that it's great for you--dehydrated and put into powder form for pills or something.
I cannot bring myself to consider it.

Not a good post to read when you already feel like vomiting lol
Props to those who dare to consume their placenta.
exactly this. I'm lucky that depression doesn't really run in the family, but I've heard from women that had PPD last time that they'd do anything to avoid it. I can see seriously considering it next time (assuming there is one) if I have issues after LOs arrival.

it probably came up because it was brought up on Glee tonight. Sue was drinking some margaritas with protien powder and placenta....
personally I think that is absolutely disgusting and could never do that.
ITA. PPD is something that runs in my family, but I've put my doctor on notice to watch me like a hawk for it and medicate accordingly.
A while back, I posed the question of cooking and encapsulating my placenta to DH. I wasn't seriously considering it, but wanted to hear (and see) his reaction. To say he was opposed is a serious understatement. He also questioned whether it's healthy to do that and breastfeed and brought up sanitation issues since it's not done in a sterile environment and not done (usually) by a healthcare professional. I'm not sure he's right about that, but it was an interesting discussion.
If I had a problem with depression in the past, I may consider it....but thankfully, chocolate has done more than it's fair share of "pcik me ups" over the years.
I'll stick with chocolate to stave off PPD.

I'm a vegetarian, so I'm going to have to abstain.
Let me check with my cat, who ate all of the placentas after having her 4 kittens 11 years ago...if she thought it really helped, maybe I'll consider it.
Seriously, though...ew.
We have a placenta encapsulation woman locally. She has tons of info about all the reasons it's good (especially if taken over time instead of all at once) and all this stuff. I was planning on doing this and think I will if I have the chance. But I'm kinda different lol
I wish I could say that the original post was in relation to Glee tonight since Sue had placenta in her smoothies... but unfortunately it came up waaaaay earlier in the day. That being said my fav quote from the Nov BMB that sums up my feeling is:
"I am not eating anything that has been expelled from my vagina"
