Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Ugh... DS in hospital again...

I'm so sick of all of these eating issues. He's back in the hospital with a failure to thrive diagnosis.  We brought him in to the ER around dinner time because he was throwing up again.  I just feel so defeated and exhausted.  I just want my baby to be ok!

  • Oh Ash, I'm so sorry sweetie. You have certainly dealt with more than your fair share. what was his diagnosis from before? milkallergy right? I remember you had to stop BFing.

  • Actually the milk/soy allergies came up after we were discharged last time.  When we left the hospital the last time they had diagnosed him with reflux and sleep apnea. I really feel like the reflux is a misdiagnosis. NOTHING is making his vomitting better. Not the Prevacid, not the rice cereal, not holding him upright etc.  In my gut I feel like something else is going on.
  • Obviously I'm not a doctor, but have they ruled out pyloric stenosis? Its main symptom is persistent and progressive projectile vomitting. An abdominal unltrasound could rule it out. Just a thought.

I hope you guys have some answers soon, and that DS is quickly on the road to recovery. That must be so hard :(

  • if you feel it's something else don't accept reflux as an answer anymore. demand answers. you are your sons best advocate.

    good luck sweetie!

  • They did rule out the pyloric stenosis the last time we were here. This has been a long frustrating process.
  • ((hug)) I hope they figure out what's going on very soon

  • Have they checked for gastroparesis ?  Some of the symptoms are poor eating and peristent vomitting.  They can see if he has it by doing a stomach emptying scan.   DS would have to drink a bottle with radioactive tracers and then they take pictures of the stomach at 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes.  DS was diagnosed with this in Septmeber after a failure to thrive diagnosis.  He's on erthroymicin to help empty his stomach more quickly.  Good luck!
  • Poor thing!  I am so sorry you and DS are going through this.
