Re: Illegal Baby Names!

  • My Husband's Grandparents wanted to name their daughter Jan.  They were not allowed to give her that name, this was 55 years ago.  It was considered slang and they were forced to give her the formal name Janet and they called her Jan.  I am not sure if this was in the US or Canada at the time.

  • My grandfather's name is illegal in Germany--Adolph.

Explanation: my grandfather's parents came to America from Italy. The family name for boys had always been "Adolpho." When they settled in America, they wanted to be thoroughly American, so "Adolpho" became "Adolph"... in 1938.

Clearly, my great-grandparents were not watching the news at the time.

  • Parents such as those given in this article are clearly not putting the well-being of their children first.  There is a large line between unique and ridiculous.  I still feel bad for the celebrity's child who was named Apple.
