Success after IF

my sister is home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She got home very early this morning, my mom offered to pay for a hotel room so she could stop half way and not drive straight through the 16 hour car ride. She refused said she just needed to be home with all us, she needed us! She got home at 3am both of my parents waited up for her. They needed to see her! She walked in burst in too tears and told my parents she just needed to sleep and asked if my mom would sleep upstairs with her! When she woke up this morning she called me and to tell us she was coming over. Pretty much half of our entire family decided to come our house too (I am talking aunts, uncles, and cousins as well)! She got her before everyone else with my mom, she walked in the door and she ran up to us crying hugging us all! She began to tell us the story of what happened! Her and a few friends, including her roommates, all were in their house huddling together while the tornado came. She said things were flying all over the place. she said it felt like it was forever and the entire time she thought she was going to die! They went outside after the storm was over and couldn't believe what they were seeing. Houses right there destroyed but their home pretty much had no damage. Within a very short time looting started, it was just people breaking in stealing they were coming in with guns and knives threatening to kill if they didn't give them whatever they had. THANKFUL no one came to their house but the police did knock on their doors and ordered them all to stay inside. The police and guards also basically told 2 of the young man, my sisters friends/neighbors, that they were now acting as US marshals and were handed guns. They guys were told they were to shoot ANYONE caught outside. All the residents were told this if they went outside they could be shot. Pretty much they all stayed in my sisters house and waited until the were giving permission from the police to leave. They police than told them to pack up whatever was worth anything to them and leave. Basically said you are risking your life staying here because of the crime going on not to mention there will be no power or water for at least 3 weeks or even up to 3 months in places! If my sisters house was about 3 blocks over her house would be gone! She said the damage is unreal. She is really upset about this, I don't blame.

Re: my sister is home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What an incredible story.  I'm so glad to hear she's home safe and sound.
  • I'm glad she's home and safe! I drove through town for the first time since it happened today and couldn't believe how bad the damage was.

We were extremely lucky and had no damage at our house. It scared the crap out of me the day of though and DD and I got extremely comfortable in the closet.

I know! My sister did say the ones looting were mostly the people from the low income section that got hit pretty hard. Still that is no reason to do what the they were doing!

  • Thank goodness!  I am so happy to hear that she is home safely.  My thoughts and prayers continue to be with everyone that has been impacted...
    Nothing to see here....
  • The whole situation is just so sad to me.  I went to Auburn so it hits close to home.  I can't imagine the devastation it makes me want to cry.  What a sad sad week/month/year for Alabama.
