Success after IF

Would you switch DC's car seat?

DS def has to switch to the convertible car seat.  The straps on the infant seat are too low and the dr. said he's fine to switch.  But he's also 20 lbs.  DD however is 16 lbs, but 26 inches.  The straps are too low for her, but the Dr. didn't say anything about switching her (DH took them to the Dr.).  Would you switch DD also?  I know what all the stats say, I'm just worried b/c of how much she weighs.

TIA!

Re: Would you switch DC's car seat?

  • You can switch them to a convertible seat and keep them rear-facing.  At those weights/heights they should fit well into just about any convertible seat and will probably be a bit more comfortable than they are in the infants seats.

Ditto. Convertible rear facing, and you should be fine for both kids!

    Because we're fancy like that.

  • There are convertible car seats out there that are supposed to fit babies 5 lbs and up.

I'd switch them to a rear facing convertible TODAY!  It will make your life soooo much easier.

  • DD has been in her convertible seat, rear-facing, since birth. She's over 21 pounds now. I'd switch them both.

  • Thanks ladies.  We will DEFINITELY be doing rear facing.  Thanks for the advice.

Honestly, I'd consider keeping DD in her infant seat.  I switched one DD to a RF convertible when she hit the height limit for her infant seat.  However, I kept my smaller DD in her infant seat because it was easier to be able to load one DD in her seat inside before getting out to the car and it also made it easier to carry them into daycare and the like (one in arms, one in infant carrier).  She'd be fine weight-wise rear-facing in a convertible seat, but just consider the logistics once you have both kiddos out of infant seats.

  • Thanks keg, but I have a bad back and don't carry either of their in their infant seats anymore and haven't in months.  But I do understand where you're coming from. THX!

  • DD came home from the hospital in a True Fit, and she was back in it full-time when she was 16 lbs (we had her back there at 6 months because she was too hot and it was a pain to carry her seat).
