Varicocele surgery & trying again?

DH is having varicocele removal surgery on 5/26. I know they say it will probably take a couple months to see any increase in numbers if it will happen...and I know he'll be really sore at first. But, can we start trying right away again if he's not sore? Is there any other reason we are supposed to wait a couple months to try? Thanks!

Re: Varicocele surgery & trying again?

  • My husband and I had sex about 10 days after his surgery. He was really swollen and sore the first week, but gradually got better. It didn't work, of course, but we gave it a shot!

His surgery ended up being really complicated and he's had a few complications since, so we are thinking of waiting 4 full months before going back to the RE. We'll be trying on our own until then.

    Good luck!

  • My DH had varicocele surgery in Sept.  He had a rough recovery but we had sex about 2 weeks after his surgery.  I think as soon as he is feeling better, there is not reason why you shouldn't try on your own.  When my DH went back in Feb his numbers did jump a good bit.  Good luck with his surgery!  I hope he has a speedy recovery and it is a huge success!

  • DH says he was good to go for sex 2 weeks after the surgery.  He was still sore for a while long after that, and we had to take it really easy.

Our surgeon/uro also told us that 50% of patients who eventually see an increase in their counts don't do so until their 6-month follow-up SA, so don't lose hope if his 3 month follow-up isn't better.  GL to you!
