I know we've got several, and some birth/first mothers too on this board that post occasionally. It's nice to get to hear from everyone about their experiences.
I am not adopted my sister is adopted. She's four years older than me. Don't tell her I blabbed...but she'll be forty in two weeks.
I will say that while living day to day, there were no differences between us. She couldn't be more my sister if she shared blood. However, I'll take this opportunity to speak from a sibling's perspective-
Her adoption actually caused me stress and worry growing up. I worried about her BM (closed adoption) finding her and interrupting our lives, I worried about the idea of a percieved perception that I was closer to my parents because I shared DNA, I worried that once she turned 18, she'd try and find her BM.
None of this ever happened.
I think we, as a community, have come along way from the 70s, but I still think it's important to be aware of how the differences between adopted and biological children may play out with the bio kid. We spend so much time making sure that the adopted children get help in adjusting and understanding life. It's just as important for the bio kid.
Best friends and sisters... 24 months and 16 months
