Re: NBR: How much did you pay for your wedding dress?

  • My first one was on clearance for $250 and it was exactly what I wanted at the time.  My second one was really a bride's maid dress...since we had both already been married before I went with a beautiful pink gown instead of white.  It was $190 I think.  I'm not the greatest example I guess, but $1,000 doesn't sound unreasonable by any means for a wedding gown!

  • I think I paid about $800, after veil, headpiece, shoes, bra, underskirt and alterations it was about $1200.

  • The dress itself was around $700. Shoes, alterations, veil etc. added another $400 or so. GL!

  • $1000, with all accessories around $1500. It was a jim Helm (sp?).. i still love it.

  • I got mine at a black Friday sale the day after Thanksgiving. It was 50% off on instock dresses. I paid $650 for it, so regular price was $1,300.

ETA: It was also 6 years ago, and needed no alteration.

  • Maggie Sottero for $710.  She was ALL the rage on the Knot six years ago.  I also got it online from Pearl's Place (remember them!?).  It retailed for $1200, I believe.

    he-he me neither!

I actually paid more than I should have ($2500) but it was the only thing that I went overboard for my wedding.  I truly fell in love when I saw it.

  • $4500 Embarrassed

ETA: I was able to sell my dress on preownedweddingdresses.com after my wedding. I got more than half the money back - if you're worried about cost you can always sell yours again after to help recoup some of that...

  • I spent 700 on mine - it was 1200 in the store and then I went with one of the places who do straight to distributor (there is a store in nyc and a store in louisiana that does this - i found it all on the knot).

When all was said and done, I paid 1,000 for dress and alterations, shoes and fancy bra thing. Alterations were my biggest expense of the extras though because I lost a lot of weight (ohhh, how I can't wait to get there again!)

And, I too agree with pp, I would not complain if you showed us the pics of the dresses!

  • I think it was about $500-600 with accessories, and my aunt did the alterations for me.  Technically I didn't pay anything for it, my parents did.  And if it makes a difference, it was about 6 years ago.
  • It was about $900.

I still think about "the other one", though.  It was a gorgeous Judd Waddell and it was $3200.  I just couldn't do it.  ::sigh::

  • I think mine was around $600 before alterations.  I wore my mom's veil so I didn't have to buy that and I had cups sewn into the dress so I didn't have to buy a special bra, I want to say alterations were maybe $175 or so??  It might have been more, I can't remember for sure - I am short so alterations always run me a lot because of hemming.

I really like both of the dresses you posted.  I like looking at wedding dresses and all that stuff so I personally would like to say that I don't care if you post all kinds of stuff about your wedding here.. Wink

  • $100. On sale and it had a pen mark on the bodice. I took a gamble that it would come out at the cleaners. It did and it retailed for $800.

  • I think it was only $250 (it was jessica mcclintock) I just remember the alterations were close to $500 (they had to do a lot)...my damn hips were a 12, but my boobs are were a 10...lol....

those dresses are gorgeous btw!  $1000 is a perfect price IMO.

  • Don't you want to wait until tomorrow to see what Kate wears? :) I wonder if the bridal shops will all be packed tomorrow.

  • $350 from JCrew. I ordered 3 and returned 2. We had a pretty small beach wedding though, so I couldnt justify the $1200 gown I liked better Stick out tongue
  • $4000, for a Reem Acra.  I sold my dress for more than half the price to someone on The Knot.

$300 but I bought fabric and had it made. I didn't love it though and looking back, if I had found a $1K dress I loved I should have done that. It bothers me to look back at my wedding photos and not love my dress.

  • The dress itself was $450.  I bought it off the rack and on sale (I was literally the first person to try it on).  I paid another $450 in alterations (it was 4 sizes too big plus had a grand cathedral train that needed bustled so lots of work) plus probably $300 in shoes and underthings.  So $1200 total.  The dress retailed new for $1500, so I got a good deal.

That was 5 years ago this November.

LOL!!  I remember them too!  My first dress was a Maggie from them, but then I went through dress remorse, sold it, and bought a Reem Acra.  I went waaaaay over budget for the dress, veil, & headpiece (~$5,000) but I don't regret it.  I loved that dress!

  • Pearl's Place is local to me so I couldn't get their Internet pricing. They are so rude in person; it's a total clusterf$ck in there. My dress was the Marisa sash dress (remember the sash dress trend?). It was $1800 at Pearls place but I paid !1200 from RK Bridal. It was 100% silk and I still love it.

  • My dress was $750 and after adding the shoes, veil, etc it was right around $1k.  I needed no alterations (other than a bustle) thankfully.  Looking back, I'd probably just buy one for $50-$100 off of CL.  It sat in the closet for 4.5 years and I finally sold it on CL for $50.  It was pretty, but it was just a wedding dress.
  • 450 for the dress, another 200 something for the veil.  They did my alterations for free for me since 3 of the bridesmaids had their alterations done there.  My shoes were 12 dollars at payless and my tiera was around 60.  My mom kept the recepts so she knew what to shop for with my sister.  My siste'rs dress was 900 because she bought a floor sample otherwise it would have been around 1800.

They are sooo rude.  My old boss at the time was "friends" of the owner and he took me there with my mom and sister.  But I didn't like the customer service there. so I went to Yvonne Lafleur!
