Good pediatrician and ER in the Round Rock area??

We are traveling to Austin, will be staying in Round Rock, with our 1 year old, and were looking for some recommendations on local peds and ER's, just in case. I want to have an idea of where to go in case of an emergency, or if DD gets sick.

Thanks everyone!

  • I love our pedi and all the other ones we've seen at Austin Reginal Clinic in RR, off Hesters Crossing.  We see Dr Kristi Harvey and we love her!

  • This is biased as I am an ER Nurse there, however, I highly recommend

St. David's Round Rock Medical Center

We do 60% pediatric cases on a regular basis. Broken bones, fever workups, random rashes and things shoved into noses and ears etc. Big Smile I trust the doctors and nurses there with my own life as well as those of my children. Both of my children were born there. Abby has gone to the ER 3 times, Emily once. I have many friends (IRL and Nesties) who have had positive experiences as well.

You can't really get into a pediatrician "on the fly". You have to be an established patient. If it's something less serious like if LO has a history of ear infections, they spike a fever and are pulling at that same ear again - St David's also has an urgent care clinic that's never very busy.  In the event they determine your needs would be better served by a full service ER, there is no additional charge to "transfer" to that higher level of care. 1518 E Palm Valley Blvd, Round Rock, Texas. I've been there twice while I was PG for Sinus Infections. All the doctors at all the hospitals are familiar with the care of children and can consult with the pediatrician on call (or call home to yours) as needed if there are specific care questions.

If something is serious enough that it would require a full service pediatric Emergency room, Dell Children's is the number one facility in the area. However, it isn't really close to Round Rock. I usually tell people that if you feel it's so serious it needs to go to Dell, you may want to call 911. If it's that bad, you'll be better off with an ambulance than trying to strap LO into their carseat and make it there. KWIM? There are exceptions of course (like if you think the fever may be pneumonia and there's a chance they'll be admitted to the hospital anyway). However, if you start off at ANY ER in town and they think it's bad, all the hospitals are very familiar with the transfer process to get kids over to Dell Childrens. It's a busy hospital and can have long waits, 3-5 hours sometimes.

I hope that helps and that you won't even need it !!!
