I am from the south, as is at least 5 generations of my family, so I really like southern names- the kind that make you think of peach ice cream, front porches, debutantes, and men behaving like gentlemen. What are some "southern" names? It seems to be an intangible quality and I'm having a hard time explaining it to DH. I am open to double names and things that are a little old-fashioned. Lay 'em on me! The 2 I can think of off the top of my head are Ava Katherine (double name) and Savannah Rose (fn/mn or double name). I'm having an extra hard time with boy names.
TIA!

The kind of southern names you're talking about should be classic names. I've definitely never met a debutante named Magnolia.
Girls:

Double names with Mary (Mary Eleanor, Mary Elizabeth, Mary Brent, Mary Mitchell, Mary Stuart, Mary Grey, Mary Alice, Mary Brooks)
Double names with Anne or Anna (Anne Everett, Anne Wells, Anna Vaughan, Anna Bennett, Anna Claire)

Again, last names as first names, but only if they're family names.
If #4 is a girl, her name will be Anna Gray (double fn), probably nn Annie. They are both family names for us.

I know a sibset named Grace, Glory, and John David. They sound very "southern hospitality" to me!

John Robert is a very Southern double name for a boy. I also used to babysit for a Sullivan (named after Sullivan's Island, SC) and a Rutledge.
For girls, I often think of double names that are a combination of feminine & masculine, like Mary Michael or Mary Jordan,
7 anovulatory cycles, 1 cycle 50 mg clomid, 4 cycles 100mg clomid, HSG double blockage, hysteroscopy with cyst and debris removal, fermara/IUI attempt abandoned because of anovulation, follistim/IUI attempt coming soon!
I live in Dallas now, but grew up in Louisiana in that debutante scene. Popular names that I consider traditional and southern would be:
Caroline, Elizabeth, Catherine, Vivian, Annette, Louise, Mary, Anne, Claire, Margaret.
And for boys: William, Robert, John Henry or John anything, Thomas, Daniel, Douglas.
ETA: Matthew, Mark, Luke & John. (duh, it's the South)
Savannah for a girl, Baylor for a boy!
THIS. I'm in Tennessee and I know 2 baby boys named Gentry, boys named Landon, Hudson, and Maguire, and girls named MacLaren, Bennette (maiden name Bennett but the family added an extra e at the end for a feminine spelling), and Sawyer.
