most EF mattress?

i'd prefer to buy organic, b/c i know that it would be the most sustainable way to buy new, but it's just really out of the budget right now. DH and i haven't slept in the same bed for a week b/c ours is so uncomfortable, and i'm ready to buy one like now.and normally, i would buy used, but that just really icks me out since i know how gross even new mattresses can be. i haven't even started looking yet, so what things/materials might you suggest to help cut down on chemical exposure and over-used resources? no matter what we do mattress wise, i will fork over the dough for organic bedding, so i think that will help a little

 *dd also sleeps with us, i was thinking about looking into a wool mattress pad but i have a feeling those will be pretty pricey too?!?
