"Unflattering Dress"

I'm wearing a new non-maternity, but uber comfy stretchy dress from White House/Black Market and DH just said to me, "Yea, you might not want to wear that dress anymore, you're getting too big for it." "It's not very flattering"  OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WHAT?  I am dumbfounded - this was supposed to be one of my transition dresses... Uhh - I can't wait until I announce at work next week so I can stop looking like the office lush and start rocking my bump. :( His comment was harsh - I'm going to get MUCH larger and not all of my clothes are going to be sweet babydoll dresses.

  • Tell me you dope-slapped him.

I'm living in black yoga pants with long enough shirts to hide that they are yoga pants this week.

  • It cracks me up!  I cannot believe he said it...  More than anything I'm angry because I just brought this dress and thought it looked pretty damn good.

Men are stupid. Do you think he just meant that he could see your bump & was suggesting that you shouldn't wear it because you would not be able to hide your bump in that dress if you're not "out" at work yet? (Grasping at straws here?!)

ETA: Although the "It's not flattering" comment throws me for a loop-- what does he think will be "flattering" when you are 8 months pregnant?

  • HAHA! He could've found a much nicer way to tell you that! I actually like it when my DH tells me if he thinks something doesn't quite fit right, it makes me feel like he is being truthful when he says I look great! He does need to find a tactful way to say it though - usually he says something like - mmmm i like some of your other clothes better, it just doesn't do you justice babe. Your DH needs to learn the lingo!

This!  Maybe he needs to "accidentally" read some of these responses Wink

  • Ouch! Poor choice of words! ufff!

  • Yuck. That's not a very supportive comment. Mine has said a couple of questionable things that have gotten him death looks so I'm not getting them as often. I plan on getting mine a father pregnancy book that will hopefully help him understand.

  • Ugh men can be so ridiculous!  I bought a new super cute bikini today and came home excited to show my husband... his response was "cute...but you are pregnant, and it's a bikini, you're only gonna be able to wear that for another month tops"...like I should be wearing muumuus at the beach just cause I have a bump??  I'm gonna show that puppy off!!

Totally agree! I plan on rocking a bikini this summer too. I think both men and mothers don't understand that maternity fashion has changed from ugly billowy tops and dresses to cute stretchy things that show off the bump! Thanks Heidi Klum! haha

  • Ouch. I think he needs a course in tactful, loving lingo. Otherwise it's gonna be a long 7 months.
  • Aw - thanks Ladies. Yes he was in the dog house and was well aware I outed his ugly comment all over the web!!  He later tried to pass the unflattering dress off as a "bad pattern" - sorry buddy, damage is done.
