2nd appt question

This may be a stupid question... I had my first appt at 8 weeks and my next is at 12. Is the 12 week u/s on the bump or vaginal?

Re: 2nd appt question

  • It depends on your doctor.  I had a vaginal u/s at 8 weeks, and I had my 12 week appointment today it was just the doppler...no u/s.

  • If you get an ultrasound at your appointment it should be abdominal.

  • Do you know if they're even doing an u/s? There isn't a "typical" 12 week u/s unless you are getting the NT scan done.

Most visits from here on out will be fairly quick...weight check, pee in a cup, blood pressure check, questions for the Dr and quick scan with the doppler to check the heartbeat.

In late 2nd tri/early 3rd tri, you'll probably start going every 2 weeks, then a month or so before your due date you'll start going weekly. At the weekly visits is when many (but not all) Drs start internal exams to check the cervix.

  • I get an ultrasound at every appt because my doc has one in her office. She just rolls it in and checks baby out for me! Very nice! I had an appt. at 10 weeks and they did it abdominally, and we found baby easily and right away. I'm sure if you get one it will be abdominal. They usually try that first and if they can't get a good pic they go vaginally.

  • I had mine today and I got an NT scan. They try to do it on your abdomen but if they can't get a good pic they will do it internal.

  • Ok, thanks.  I guess I'm not sure if I'm getting one then, I just assumed I was.  They did not mention that the NT scan would be at my next visit, so I assume it is not.  I will definitely find out!  Sorry for the silly question....first time around, learning as I go.
