Checking on Agencies

We are considering a few different agencies.  Is there a website or the BBB or some place that we can go to check the reputation of the various organizations?

We are starting the research phase of adoption too.

I believe there's one called "Adoption Agencies that Probably Don't Suck". I went there. And then I just googled [adoption agency] reviews. We also asked for references from agencies were were interested in.

Ultimately we settled on ours because a friend had heard good things about them, and a CW of DH's had used them for her homestudy.

Welcome to both of you!  I remember you both from the IF boards and I think it's really time for all three of us to have success building our families!  :-)  We googled and googled too, but there just isn't a ton of information out there.  In the end, I requested packets from every agency in our city and many in our state.  I ended up going with the one that I actually knew several people that had adopted through them with nothing bad to say. 

Choosing an agency was very stressful and my best advice is to research and then go with your gut!  Please post often and let us know how things are going!

Hi A & jenhm!  As I told Dr. L earlier today, it's nice for us all from PL/TTCAL/IF to reunite here.  We WILL have our families, even though it's not how we originally planned.

And T, you know I'm trying to utilize this board so I don't have to call you & S three times a day every day.

Word of mouth.  Put your feelers out there and talk to people. We were also told to just talk about the fact that we were adopting with anyone and everyone including the cashier at the grocery store. Reason is they say you never know where a lead or a connection or a match can come from.    We used a consultant who recommended about 7 agencies to us.  If you want her name just let me know. She works with couples throughout the US and only recommends agencies that are reputable and states that have really good laws that protect us as the adoptive parents.    Good luck, let me know if you need anything!
