***Cranang****

I didn't want this to get lost in your post, because you are getting a lot of replies so fast.

Anyway, since you have such a strong and honest opinion, maybe you can provide input on my name choices....I am going a little nuts on the boy list.  I thought you would be a fair judge,  and since I kind of like "less common" names, I could use a few "tell it like it is" comments.  There are some traditional names on there, but they are family names and I am not totally in love with any single one on the list just yet.

I am looking for a boy name that could possible pair well with the girl name, Vera Katherine (pronounced "Veera")

Here's my list so far:

Charles Calvin

Wyatt Matthew

Bruce Matthew or Bruce Anthony

Miles David

Miles Anthony?

Winston Anthony....(this one I am sure will get axed, because it makes DH think of the cigarettes, booo)

Jude Anthony

I am feeling kinda "meh" about this list, and so is DH, but we are stuck.   We shouldn't even think about it so much until we know the sex of our baby, but the mind wonders anyway!

Re: ***Cranang****

  • Hahaha!  I'm nothing if not honest!  Probably a little too opinionated!

We, too, are having a hard time with a boy's name.  I think we're hoping for a girl just because we like the name we picked so much...hahaha.

Your list is so refreshing to me.  I don't mind different names, but I have a hard time understanding why people would continue to name their boys "Aiden" when it's obvious that there are going to be 50 of them in his graduating class!  And I'm with the others on the substituting "Y" for an "I".  Anyway, rant off.

Of your list, I happen to be partial to the two names with "Miles".  I'm a little partial to that, and I hope this doesn't ruin it for you, but I named my dog that 10 years ago (he's still around).  I wish I could use Miles for a boy's name, but I obviously can't have a dog and a son named the same.  But I LOVE the name.  Wyatt I used to like, but I have subsequently met someone I'm not that fond of with that.  It's hard to get past that isn't it?  I like Jude, I like Bruce as well.

Keep me updated on what you're thinking about!  We're having a really hard time with the boy's name and I'll probably start bouncing some off of you!

  • I will certainly be happy to bounce names back and forth.  We already made the mistake of telling family that we like Vera for a girl and got some not so nice responses, but it's LITERALLY the only name that DH and I agree on, and DH is set on naming the baby Vera if it's a girl.  I'm with him on that, so we're just gonna tough out the rants about it.

As for boys, DH and I both tend to like those quick, short, one-syllable, "manly" names, hence Bruce.  I like Miles a lot too, but DH isn't quite on board yet with that one.

Don't feel bad about your dog's name, that doesn't bother me.   When I taught kindergarten, one of my students was more than pleased to tell me that she got a puppy and was choosing a name.  She came back to school the next day, and said that she named her puppy after me.  I was more than flattered!  I thought it was hilarious, but incredibly cute....that girl is one of my favorite students of all time. =)

  • I feel like I'm settling on boys names that are kind of boring...but my favorite right now is Ryan Alexander.

Our last name is "Bailey" and I can't stand the two "e" sounds back to back, so anything like "Riley" is out (not that I liked that name).  It was especially hard with girls' names, because SO many of them end in "e".  Brittany, Lindsey, Kristie, Angie, Melanie...and if you say it with the last name it's very "valley girl".  Hahaha.

We decided on Calista Lynell for a girl though.  "Lynell" is my best friends middle name (and we've been friends for 25 years, so it seemed like a fitting tribute), and we were going over Greek baby names and loved Calista (even though the actress Calista Flockhart has that name, it's really the only other time I've ever heard it).  I'm not even allowed to talk about other girl names around here now!

  • I like Calista, and for some reason, I am really loving Lynell, I don't think I have heard that one before, but it's not quite what I would call "youneek".

You can talk about girl names all you want!

  • Thanks...

Oh, and I meant to tell you...I LOVE Vera Katherine.  It's very chic, but fun too.

  • Aw, thanks!  DH and I are both pretty please with that name.  That's why the boy names are so difficult, we just don't love those names like we love this one.....it's funny too, because I think that DH might have some extra fingers crossed for his first child to be a boy...total macho pass-on-the-family-name syndrome!
