HI!  I know that there are some good ones out there...I have some friends that are great husbands that are cops...I just got a sh!tty one the first time around.  I know that they aren't all like that, I think that I'm just a little jaded ya' know...and the reality is too that regardless of how messed up the situation is, they'll all stick together.  So, like in my situation, where he was having an affair with another officer our entire marriage, the other officers are still all "Team D"...which sucks that it breeds that lifestyle...the lifestyle that makes it okay.  Does that make sense?

Re: ***DandaLion***

  • Oh, I totally understand! I've dated a cop who was like that and I got burned pretty bad. I totally understand being jaded. The job does breed that lifestyle. I just wanted to throw out there that amongst all the crappy ones, there are some really awesome guys in the job that don't buy into the BS lifestyle. Totally not defending the bad ones, and wasn't intending to come off that way. Sorry if I did. Im completely happy for you with the new guy and he does sound great!

  • You totally didn't come off that way!  :-)  Just saying that most cops (most, not all) are sucky!  I have a great friend who works with my ex and he's so opposite of him...he's a great husband, and a great dad.  Don't get me wrong, I know that nothing is perfect but he'd never pull the crap that my ex did.  I just think it's sucky that it breeds that type of lifestyle.  It's a hard stressful job and I totally get that...

Can I butt in a bit? Both my husband and myself are in the field and I haven't ran into the most are this way type of thing. I know amazing men and women that would never do such a thing. It seems a bit unfair to generalize that cops are this way specifically or the job breeds this type of behavior. I personally think affairs and such happen in the private sector just as much as the public sector. Just my two cents.

I do think it depends on the department you work in. The department I used to work at was really bad. The department I'm at now is awesome and I can't think of anyone that fits the stereo type. It does happen in the private sector, but I think the close relationships the job fosters does make it slightly more prevalent than the private sector. At least amongst co-workers. Then there is the whole badge-bunny thing that I don't think goes on in the private sector. I could be wrong though! There may be a whole culture of techie-groupies I'm just totally not aware of. :)

You just totally made my day with the whole badge bunny thing and the techie-groupie comparison!
