Hi Ladies,
I spoke with my REs office today and although we don't have our appt with the Dr until the first week of May, the nurse said that after reading through the information from my lap and DH's urology appts that he is likely going to recommend a round of Clomid+Ovidrel+IUI. We're excited since this seems like it will significantly increase our chances of getting PG. My DH was a little freaked out that I would have to give myself a shot and even offerred to give me the shot himself if I thought it would be easier - funny that after all this time getting a shot is more shocking than getting inseminated in a Dr's office to get KU instead of the regular way. ![]()
I feel like I understand how an IUI works from reading on this board and talking with the nurse, but I have a couple of questions I'm hoping you ladies can help me out with? First question - I'll give myself a shot of Ovidrel to induce ovulation - I'm assuming that the IUI will happen earlier that day, or what is the timing of everything? With an IUI do they take a beta reading, or do you POAS? About how much does an IUI cost?
Thanks so much for any information/insight you can give!
Re: Tell me about IUIs
Ovidrel is easy, it's a pre-filled syringe with a tiny needle. I don't even feel it. After you take the Ovidrel, you will ovulate about 36 hours later, so most RE's schedule your IUI for 24 or 36 hours later. RE's differ on whether they do beta's or not. My RE doesn't do a beta until you have a postive HPT. And cost will vary, we pay for a package deal up front which is $760. That includes baseline ultrasound, monitoring ultrasounds, sperm wash and the IUI itself.
Good luck!

The shot is scary at first, but after doing it you will think it's a piece of cake. I HATE needles and have done it 4 times now. The Ovidrel will make you O 36 to 48 hours after the shot. Typically you go in for your IUI 36 hours after the shot. Generally a AM appt. Our insurance covers our IUI, not sure of the real cost.
GL!
Forgot to add: My Re does a beta 14 days after the IUI.
