Midwife visit and insurance question

I had my consult today. Love the place. The only thing I'm a little weary about is that they schedule 10-20 patients a month because they have two midwifes and two assistants. If they have other births going on at the center when I go into labor I will not be able to have a home birth and will have to go to the center to have the baby which is not terrible but I'd wish they'd set a limit.

I am not scheduled for my first appointment with my midwife until I am 10 weeks. I have an appointment this coming Monday with my OB. Has anyone done this before? Do you know if it will make a difference for insurance if I have two appointments? I have a deductible that I have to meet so I'm going to be paying OOP anyway and I would like to see a provider sooner than later. Any advice would be appreciated.

Unless your MW is requesting for collaborative care with an OB, I do not think the insurance would cover both visits. Why do you need to see an OB in addition to your MW?

Also, in regards to your comment about the BC taking 10-20 births a month, the birth center I work at takes 20-30 patients a month. So it does not seem like a crazy number of clients given they have 2 midwives on staff. You might get lucky and go into labor a night when there are no other patients at the center.
