Anyone looking ghostly pale???

So normally this time of year I would atleast attempt a couple rounds in the tanning bed to ward off this overbearing paleness, but since I don't want to cook my baby that's not an option.  I don't live in such a great place to get much good sun this time of year and my brother is getting married next month.  They've worked really hard to plan a beautiful wedding and I'm thankful I get to be a part of it.  Bad thing is my bridesmaids dress is a very light pastel pink and I fear it's barely a darker color than me...LOL.  I asked the doctor about spray tanning and he said no but he tends to play on the overly safe side of things.  I know all kinds of girls that have gotten spray tans while pregnant and their doctors don't seem to think there is anything wrong with it.  I don't want to go against my doctors wishes but I don't want to be pasty for my brothers wedding either.  Anybody have any input???

  • If your doctor said no why are you even questioning doing it.  There is no way in hell I would risk anything to harm my baby!

  • I have very fair skin that never tans--just burns.  I'm used to being bright white all year round.  I have tried a few of the do-it-yourself spray tans--I wouldn't recommend them.  As far as the safety, I'm sure one time won't hurt.  Just make sure you go to a professional place and that the area is well-ventilated.
  • Yes, someone asked me if I was sick. Ugh... went and got a spray tan today. Do not plan on getting any more of those but I had to. Should be in the sun more starting this weekend.

  • If your doctor says no, then why would you want to risk it? he is going to know more than we are.... Why don't you try the lotion? I'm the MOH in a wedding in june with a dress that washes out my already washed out skin, but I am not worried about it. .....

  • IMO, your doctor probably said no due to breathing the spray in. He would probably tell you not to dye your hair, too (which I still do and don't have a problem with it). If you're still unsure about it, try the lotion. I think if you do what another poster said, go to a place that has really good ventillation, you'll probably be ok for a one-time spray tan. I'm light skinned too, so I just burn. But I got used to looking pale a long time ago. GL!

  • I use Jergens Natural Glow lotion and have a really nice looking color after using it for about a week. You should try that instead.

  • My doctor told me NO LOTION tanners at all. She did say if I was really self conscious about my pasty skin that spray tan is much safer. The lotion sinks into your skin much deeper than the spray done at a salon. I plan on getting atleast one round of spray tanning in before I can sit outside and get a "tan"... im so white I usually just burn. I did some research myself and heard bad things about tanning lotions... so be careful ladies!

  • I'm pale anyway and then add the morning sickness... I probably look green.

ETA: Why not celebrate your natural skin color.  I never try to alter mine.  I would never risk anything to my baby or skin cancer to myself.

  • Apparently I am. My boss asked if I was feeling ok. I said yes, don't I look ok? And he said no. Gee thanks.

As for your dilemma,  did your doctor give you a reason why not? I agree with previous posts that they know more than we do.

As for the wedding, the day is about the Bride and the Groom, I wouldn't worry about if your dress blends with your skin tone or not. If the bride picked the color and didn't care how the bridesmaids looked in it, then she's obviously not worried about it. Just my opinion.

  • I wouldn't bother.  Everyone's going to be looking at the bride.  It's okay to be pasty!

  • I'm usually very pale and I live in the desert with tons of sun. I would recommend a spray tan, just make sure its well ventilated. And if you're still nervous, ask the salon if they do prenatal spray tans.
